Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

New CBS poll of likely voters nationally:

Clinton 47
Donald 38
Johnson 8
Stein 3

In head-to-head, Clinton leads by 51-40. We could see something that hasn't happened in 32 years with these new margins.

But the USC poll, which turned out to be the most accurate of the bunch last time around, has it essentially tied/slight Trump lead. Outlier , yes. Still causes me a bit of anxiety.

The TV ad writes itself.

ANNOUNCER:"We could tell you why Trump is unfit to be president, but we'll let his wife tell you."

MELANIA:"My husband is highly suggestible and can easily be induced to make terrible decisions."

ANNOUNCER:"You can't say you haven't been warned, America."

The whole interview is a bunch of red flags as to why he should not be President.

It's almost unbelievable that Republican primary voters were so enthralled by racial grievance politics that they nominated an emotionally stunted sociopath that's tearing their party apart.

The USC poll is not a real poll. If that poll shows anything, it's how vested humans become once they have declared a position. People become intractable. I want to view that poll after the election to see if they know what preference each individual made every time they asked and if people flipped their preference, once twice, three times, never?

While Tony Stark's posts often can be over the top, I don't agree with you in this case. The Republicans have obstructed Obama's current nomination, and have already vowed to obstruct any nomination Hillary will do - on top of all the other obstruction they've done in the last eight years. I really don't see a reason why Hillary should play nice if the Democrats have a majority in the Senate.

SCOTUS appointments are the perfect opportunity to leave a legacy of your political philosophy long after you've retired as president, so why not take it, and appoint someone who's expected to last 40 years on the bench.

As to the topic of qualification: there are no formal qualifications for SCOTUS, not even to have a law degree; in principle, you could appoint any hick you'd like. I note, though, that Tony specifically included "ACLU lawyer", so someone who has experience with constitutional law (though primarily with First Amendment issues). And though it's usual to appoint someone who has experience on the bench, there is precedent: FDR appointed Robert Jackson, whose primary experience was as a "county-seat lawyer", and gained fame as US prosecutor at Nuremberg.

Elana Kagan was never a judge.

Melania seems a bit subversive at times. I'm not sure she likes her husband very much.

Why should she be any different than the rest of us? She has to know her husband is a lying cheating bastard. But hey, the pay is good.

Trumpy launched a full scale attack on the GOP "Establishment" on a tour of Wisconsin today. He is upset that they are not buying into his "election is rigged" nonsense. He is burning his bridges very, very, fast.
His cutting ties with the Official GOP organization in Ohio was particularly stupid.

Tony Stark will write off 40% or so of the population as evil idiots, and he's entitled to that opinion. Perhaps he feels that they don't deserve to be represented.

There's some sympathy to be had for that viewpoint, mind you. I mean, how far down do we take the idea of democracy? Is there a point at which the people's choice is unacceptable for the greater good?

First: It would be a senator, who represents a state, not some gerrymandered district.

Second, not confirming would be one thing, refusing to hold confirmation hearings a different thing. You can't do the latter without advertising your obstructionism.

Third: Even with Scalia, the Texas abortion restrictions would have been blocked; the vote was 5-3. Thanks to a conservative Roman Catholic who ruled conservatively - that is, narrowly.

Thank you for the correction. I thought both chambers were involved. Always glad to be set straight.

I think my overall point stands - just substitute "Senator from a conservative state".

But I agree Obama should have been given his chance, and I think Republicans not even holding confirmation hearings hurts the brand. A brand which, in my opinion, may already be reeling from 1,000 little cuts and one huge gaping wound.
