Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

I am very much concerned about that attitude, and it was wrong to deny a vote to Obama's nominee. It's entirely possible that they might do the same for another four years.

What is your point otherwise? How does this reflect on my comments?

You seem to be implying that it is somehow incumbent on President Obama/Clinton to make a reasonable nomination when the Republicans have made it clear they won't support any nomination. The Republican's had the chance to approve a reasonable candidate and rejected it for purely ideological reasons, it's not revenge to punish them for such actions, it's a necessity to prevent it happening in future.

She should appoint a 35 year old, black, atheist, lesbian, ACLU lawyer.

I'd be happy if she appointed Obama.

He's still fairly young. He's pretty qualified. And the apoplexy would be amusing

I don't think he would do it. Though it would be amazing to see Republican heads explode over it.

Didn't the Republicans say that Obama shouldn't appoint a new SC judge so close to the end of his term? Clinton will be at the start of her term, so that wouldn't fly as a reason.

Rupert is playing a clever game. I've no idea what it is, but respect the guy : he does play a clever game.

If there really is a scheme for Trump TV Rupert knows all about it. What he'll be looking at is having Trump et al putting a lot of money into their venture then, at the appropriate moment, shafting it and picking up the good bits for peanuts

While this is going on so is a Republican civil war, which naturally forms along the lines of Trump TV v Murdoch. We can all see where that goes.

I am betting, since the WSJ editorial board is badly divided on Trump, they will go the 'No endorsement this election" route.

Without trying to sound too much like a conspiracy theorists, but...

I do believe that Trump got some signal from Moscow (or believes he did) that Kremlin hackers will help him get elected, including hacking voting machines.
If you plan to cheat, the first thing you do is claim that there will be cheating ; when everyone denies that, they are on record saying that the elections will be fair.

We have strong evidence for Russian meddling, through Wikileaks, twitterbots and voting machine hacking. And all for the benefit of Trump. Combine that with Trump's bizarre defense of Russia against anything, and the picture you get is a kind of Manchurian candidate.

That's just enough planning for Trump to handle it too.

I don't think he would do it. Though it would be amazing to see Republican heads explode over it.

He might think the same thing. Go through the process just to troll the Republicans.

They said that the next President should fill Scalia's seat, with the obvious hope that it would be a Republican. When Hillary becomes President, I wouldn't put it past them to totally ignore what they said before and make up some BS excuse to block her nominee if they can. They're extremely dishonest.

Figuring out what to do with Trump's base means admitting they are racist

Dylan Matthews has a wonderful piece up on Vox, Taking Trump voters’ concerns seriously means listening to what they’re actually saying, which points out that in order to heal the great divide in the United States we're going to have to admit what Trump's popularity is all about: a fading, racist white majority is struggling to maintain primacy.

For various reasons, our press and politicians shy away from tackling the inherent racism of this movement head-on. Apparently racism is so ugly, we don't want to accuse people of it even as they scream white power slogans and wave Nazi flags. People find it easier to say that White Power America has big economic problems, which isn't true, rather than look honestly at the hatred and bigotry.

Almost daily in America, police kill an innocent black man. Some portion of our population thinks this is "law and order." We've got white power ******** threatening post-election violence. A reality-tv-created egotistical monster is closer to being elected President of the United States than anyone should believe possible.

Despite the following facts being frequently mentioned, some people still don't get a couple of basic truths about polls:

A. The floor for the candidate for one of the two major parties is around 40 to 45%. Either the Dems or the GOP could nominate Mickey Mouse or Darth Vader and get an automatic 40%. No way Trump falls below 40%.He is not going down into the 20s. And In an American Presendential election, to win by more then 4% of the vote is considered a landslide.
B.The nationwide polls don't really matter except as a snapshot of the national mood. The ones to watch are the individual state polls.

I'm actually pretty sure that Hillary hates Republicans too and will **** them over if she gets a chance.

Can we be clear on something?

Do you agree that Trump voters deserve all of the civil rights that others have? That they deserve a right to free speech (incitement to violence not included), etc.?

They don't deserve abuse from the government simply because they chose the losing side, right?

This "********" that you anticipate Hillary doing (which I don't) -- this involves mere political advantage, yes?

I honestly think that Hillary will work with Republicans, that this was her strength as a senator. I don't think she has the same view that Republicans are comic book villains. But even if she did, we would all hope that she treats them as civilians, as persons deserving of basic rights, yes?

I don't think they could get away with blocking for 4 years..... could they?

Sure.

But she shouldn't pretend as if they're reasonable people. They're not.

The Republicans made it clear that they wouldn't approve any nomination prior to the election. They have not said that they won't approve any nomination after the election.

I think their position is indefensible, but they have the upper hand here. Once the election comes, then we'll see whether they are so remarkably intransigent. But, unless the Dems have overwhelming power, Hillary can't force any nomination through.

(Again: ignoring the so-called nuclear option for the nonce)

Yep, but the media needs to maintain the drama, because god forbid they should treat the governing of the country as anything other than a soap opera.

Could be, but let's wait and see before criticizing them thus.

Sure.

But she shouldn't pretend as if they're reasonable people. They're not.

If not, then there's little she can do, outside of executive orders.

Thankfully, she doesn't seem to share your extremist bigotry.

I don't believe either of those things for a second. Hillary has been around for 40 years, she knows the game. Unlike Trump who may be more interested in striking back and settling petty scores I guarantee that Hillary could care less. She'll do what is politically expedient. She is far more likely to exasperate liberals than torment her enemies. She'll be entertaining ultra right wing Republicans in the White House who might have attacked her that very day.

People on the hill don't dislike her. Go back and read the comments of her fellow senators when she was one. Even hard core Republicans liked her. She has a reputation of working very hard and not grandstanding. While I'm not optimistic about radical changes during her administration I fully expect that more will get done on a number of issues . She's very good at finding common ground.

Nah, I'm pretty sure she hates Republicans and sees them as the enemy. Because they are.

I doubt he would take that job even though he's certainly qualified. Not only a President but a former law professor.

Bur ex Presidents can make a lot of dead Presidents, so my guess is that he'll find a good gig where he can do both.
