Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

If the Dems take the Senate, they should just eliminate the filibuster and tell the Republicans to go **** themselves as Hillary stacks the Supreme Court with liberals. First filling Scalia's seat, then RBG and Breyer retire. Oh and a bunch of other federal courts.

I really couldn't possibly care less if Republicans don't like it. Actually, them disliking it would bring me pleasure.

Yeah, until the Republicans take the presidency and the senate.

And then? How you feeling about that? Or should Republicans be outlawed?

If the senate swings Dem, and if GOP filibusters SCOTUS appointments, then I won't be at all surprised if a rules change is pushed through, which only requires simple majority. The threat of rules change might even bring the know/do-nothings into line.

No, right, that's a possibility.

I don't know if it's a good or a bad possibility, but it's been known as the "nuclear option" for a reason, I suppose.

I am very much concerned about that attitude, and it was wrong to deny a vote to Obama's nominee. It's entirely possible that they might do the same for another four years.

What is your point otherwise? How does this reflect on my comments?
And you think Democrats should try to reason with these people? Trying to be reasonable with them doesn't work.

I hope it doesn't come to that. But if they continue to flat-out obstruct, as they have with Garland, I don't see an alternative.

Do either of you have a basis for believing that such an ideal or principle has ever existed?

I don't. I only have the old notion that it did, but I can't back that up with any history and I might just have been naive.

And you think Democrats should try to reason with these people? Trying to be reasonable with them doesn't work.

Not reasoning with them doesn't work either, since they are likely to control at least the House.

Yeah I have this thing going where I'm simultaneously a wide-eyed optimist and a cynic.

There is no cynicism without the view that things could and should be better. Cynicism and optimism go hand-in-hand. You can be an optimist without being a cynic (because you are ignorant), but not the other way around.

It's a bad option, I think, but we'll have to see what happens.

And I must admit that I'm not even too sure how bad the option is. What's wrong with a simple majority confirmation? These days, a super-majority is required for every supreme court confirmation. It didn't used to be that way, did it?

I'm not really show how that will work.

First of all, are there really financial institutions willing to front the money to Trump, given his string of business failures? (Remember, most big banks won't touch him now, and he often has to deal with foreign banks.)

I'm sure there are many Russians he could find who would be willing to put up money for a "native" USA RT.

Secondly, what exactly will this network be showing? Will it be a news network with a right-wing bias? We already have Fox news, so it will split the audience there. Some sort of lifestyle channel (like a 24 hour "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous")? Perhaps, but given how much Trump's name has been tarnished, that may not work well either. Perhaps, given Trump's voter base, it will constantly show reruns of DW Griffith's Birth of a Nation and Schindler's List (the edited version showing Schindler as a traitor.)

You're doing that planning thing - Trump doesn't do data, he don't need some plan or strategy.

Quite seriously I could see Russia using him as a propaganda tool to create strife in the USA.

That's an interesting view, but I think you can be a cynic and not be an optimist. Knowing that things could be better isn't like thinking that they will be.

Fair enough. Perhaps "romantic" is closer to what I meant.

Sure, whatever. Evil bastards with whom we should never speak.

Thank goodness that Hillary doesn't think that way.
I'm actually pretty sure that Hillary hates Republicans too and will **** them over if she gets a chance.
