Hillary Clinton is Done: part 3

Say, I know you're all for posting in the correct threads. Why don't you take your latest ruminations on a life raft over to The All Purpose Hillary Clinton thread? 'Cuz, like this one is all about how Hillary Clinton is Done. As the chance of that is about equal to the Bears winning the next four Super Bowls, you might save some face in the All Purpose thread.

Otherwise, it's beginning to look like that good old boy joke that ends with, "Be honest, son. You're not really here for the hunting, at all, are you?"

Oh dear, another post that has absolutely nothing to do with either my post or the recent subject of the thread, undeniable proof that Hillary is a two faced rat.

But no doubt you were pleased at you "clever" "turn of phrase" hmmmm?

Of course you were....

The founding fathers didn't want anyone to have a title, so Mr President was a workaround developed later.

John Adams did. He hated the idea of a simplistic title like Mr. President. He believed Kings around the world would look down on a leader with such an unimpressive title.

Because, obviously, she is saying one thing to the public about regulating wall street and the opposite to wall street.

I cannot believe she cited Lincoln and the 13th amendment.

Lincoln would say anything to get the 13th amendment passed.
Clinton would say anything to get herself elected.

she is despicable

Which viable politician behaves differently? Lincoln said despicable things to convince Southerners he was safe, in order to get elected.

No he did not.

Leave it to Shillaries to rip on Lincoln because their dreadful leader was exposed as a complete fraud.

Sad

Add "Civil War" to the long list of topics you have to rush off and learn about before posting again, please.

And your interpretation of "discussion of actual history" as "ripping on" is very interesting. Lincoln infuriated much of his base(which was already split) numerous times because of conciliatory statements or gestures he made to the Dems/Southerners. The entire discussion of the Emancipation Proclamation only freeing Confederate slaves comes to mind. Lincoln was political. He didn't need a vote for the Proclamation, but he needed votes for the upcoming off-year elections.

Add "Lincoln said despicable things" to southern slaveholders that Hillary fans are going to say and then defend.

Fantastic!

Seriously, you cannot make this stuff up!

Obviously, you can. Witness your last 2200 posts. You're welcome to show us your deep understanding of presidential politics of the mid-19th century. Or you can keep pretending while you pick up on Cockwork Orange talking points.

Oh no, do me a solid and use this as a teaching moment.

What despicable things did Abe Lincoln say to southerners?

That their peculiar institution would be allowed to continue. Lincoln was not an abolitionist : he expected slavery to wither on the vine. The intractable problem was the expansion of slavery into new territory. That was not acceptable to free working families outside the slave states.

I thought this was one of her worst answers during the debate, but only because I don't think she explained herself well, and left some people with a mistaken impression.

During the debate, it almost came of as,

"Mrs. Clinton, it seems like you were saying one thing to Wall Street insiders, but a different thing to the public."

"Well, yeah, but Lincoln did the same thing."

I am not sure, but I think it was supposed to be,

"Mrs. Clinton, we have this quote here that says you should say one thing in public and another thing in private."

"Let me explain that to the audience, Anderson. That line was a part of a speech I gave, where I was talking about Abraham Lincoln's efforts to pass the Thirteenth Amendment. He knew that different people would be swayed by different arguments, and that you have to understand your audience. It's about building coalitions."

In other words, the Lincoln reference wasn't something that was made up during debate prep to justify doing what she did. I think what she was saying was that the WikiLeaks quote was an out of context piece from a speech that talked about Abraham Lincoln's methods used to pass an important, but controversial, item on his agenda. The Lincoln reference was referring to part of the original speech.

If that's the case, then it doesn't seem weird at all, or despicable.

People who like Trump like him, in part, because you get the real deal with him. He doesn't hold back. He doesn't present one thing in public and another in private. At least, he doesn't appear to, because he says everything with the appearance of great conviction. What you see is what you get. Hillary, on the other hand, tailors her speech to her audience. She emphasizes one thing here and another thing there.

The first style, Trump's style, can seem refreshing, except after a while you start realizing that it's not simply Trump being honest. It's Trump lacking self control. He blurts out whatever is on his mind. You start paying attention to him over time and you realize he isn't even consistent from one day to another. He says everything with the same degree of conviction, whether or not he said the opposite yesterday or will say the opposite tomorrow. And you also find that he is quite candid at all times, even when talking about what he would like to do to your daughter. Suddenly, honesty doesn't always seem like a virtue.

Hillary sometimes lacks sincerity, because she has studied her audience and says some blend of her own agenda mixed with what she thinks you want to hear. It's not all that likable, but, to be honest, I greatly prefer that form of insincerity to Trump's candid impulsiveness.

It is baffling to me that people are missing the fact that she was reasuring Wall Street insiders

Wall
Street
Insiders

That she was saying one thing in public and telling them Wall Street insiders the truth.

Indefensible, except for her supporters. And to drag down Lincoln with her?

Despicable.

Nope. I'm content to let you flop around on the beach like a barramundi with a hook in its mouth.

Personally, I think it's that public school education you got in Illinois. "Honest Abe", my ass. (In Louisiana they taught us that Huey Long was a fine upstanding man who had only the greater good for the people in his heart.)

I think Lincoln was our greatest President. But I have no delusions that he was above politics and pragmatism. The very fact that he had to walk that tightrope to get things done is what makes him great. Just as Johnson promised anything to the southern wing in '65, then unleashed Hubert on the Senate floor. That's what being a leader is all about.

Trump: "I will not lie to you!" What a crock. He lies to himself when he gets up and adjusts his fake hair, puts on his girdle and checks his orange-in-a-bottle skin regimen. He lies when he says he's successful. He lies when he says he's seen things on film that don't exist. The irony of this buffoon calling up "Honest Abe. He never told a lie." is beyond the pale.

Ah, the special snowflake argument. It's a perfect example of "A man hears what he wants to hear and ignores all the rest."

Can you spot the flaw? A cynic (who bankers and traders, cynical?) in that audience would be laughing at the people who heard that statement and cried out,....

"Oooh, she means me. She's talking to me because I'm special. It's those other people she's not being totally frank with, but this is her real thoughts."

For crissake, she's telling you that she makes **** up depending on the audience. Why would the speech she's making at that moment be any different?

And it's not really even "makes **** up". It's like the Lincoln point.... knowing what portion of your program appeals to which person or demographic.
