Trump runs for POTUS/ Trumped Up! Part VI

No, that's impossible. It's Trump or Pence. Voting has already started. Obama voted in Chicago already.

Legally the best the GOP could do would be a write-in candidate and that's not an option that includes a winning potential. Anyone who misspells the name won't get counted even if they could get GOP minions to collectively write-in a single name.

I suppose Pence would top the ticket if Trump died which might be the same if Trump resigns. But I'm not sure that's actually written into the Constitution. And Pence has the hard core GOP base, but would that transfer to the swing voters and would a Pence ticket bring voters out?

I do hope this whole brouhaha will suppress GOP voter turnout.

Bloody hell, just pass the popcorn - the main thing here is that there is a flood of Republicans to ask him to leave the ticket. You know, the scorched earth party which would never, ever let mere empiricism to dictate their policies. It's just too perfect for words!

The Constitution is not clear on this AT ALL. It also doesn't say how the individual States choose the electors who do choose the President. In theory there doesn't even have to be a State election for President.

Which brings up the question of electors voting for someone other than who is on the ballot or faithless electors.

In 29 States it is ILLEGAL for an Elector to vote against the names on the ballot and those laws have been deemed Constitutional in Ray v Blair. In Michigan and Minnesota the vote would be voided.

Any way you look at it would be a monster mess.
