Vice Presidential Debate

Serious question is someone on the (R) wants to answer it, and I wish they'd asked Pence this

Pence talked about making the US Military Strong and having "Peace through strength", however having a posture of strength means little if you are unwilling to actually use that strength.

Should The Donald win, and Russia and China ignore this new US Military Strength, but rather call the US's bluff and continue their expansion into the Ukraine and South China Sea, would you support going to war with them?

I assume Pence is hoping for a discussion of topics. He's quite convinced of how right he is (very far right... hyuk, hyuk) and is a more polished speaker.

Kaine will be trying to turn it into a referendum on Trump. IMHO there's enough material on Pence and his policies worthy of discussing, but no one cares, really - about either of them. So taking one for the team, Kaine goes after all the smarmier Trump points and tries to get Pence to deny them. Pence won't so will come out as the good soldier, but Kaine and the Dems don't really care about that. They just want another 90 minutes(?) of "Donald Trump, What a Schmuck!" on national tee-vee.

If we're paying attention to debate points and style, Pence wins. If we're paying attention to political goals, Kaine wins if he keeps the subject on Trump or Trump v. Hillary more than half the time.
Foolmewunz must have taken a joy ride in Obama's time traveler machine because this is exactly what happened.

I lasted about 15 minutes before I left the room. Kaine was really blowing it at the beginning - he was hyper but I understand he righted the ship later on. What got to me was both of them ignoring the question, even the very first one, and just going into their talking points. I wish the moderators would stop that behavior. In fact, in the few minutes I watched, I thought the moderator had already badly lost control of the debate

According to the CNN instant poll, Pence won 48-42.

For comparison, Paul Ryan won 48-44 in 2012.

Donald might actually be upset about it. One, because Pence did much better than him thus making him look bad in comparison. And two because he failed to do the impossible job of defending the crap that comes out of Donald's mouth and Twitter.
Why do you think Donald even knows there was a debate happening? And if he was aware of it I very much doubt he is at all interested in a debate he wasn't in!

He live tweeted it. Insulting Tim Kaine's appearance while Pence lied that Donald doesn't do that. This is the second debate in a row where he can complain of a Mike that wasn't working for him.

Does it matter? Nobody will be able to make Mister President Trump allow Pence any say in things. Alright, maybe the 2nd Amendment folks, I don't know. But nobody else.

I dunno.

I looked at the debate two ways - either it validated Trump's choice for VP because lets face it - he's going to be the one running the country, not Trump.

or

There's a target on his back now that Trump sees how outclassed he is by his choice. Maybe one of Donnie's Russian connections takes him out.

As far as Pence is concerned, Trump is doing everything right: making him look good in comparison for his own 2020 bid for nomination.

Very astute! Good call!

These guys should know you can't deny you said stuff when there are clips of you saying it. This morning MSNBC is showing Pence denying something he or Trump said followed by the clip of him or Trump saying exactly what he's denying.

Unless Fox shows that, it is unlikely that supporters of Trump/Pence will become aware of it.

Zing!

I saw The Daily Show interview with Vox founder and he had a couple of good observations that I'll paraphrase:

1) Pence may have won the debate, but Trump was the loser.

2) Pence is going to be awfully surprised when he finds out that Trump is his running mate.

ETA: Vox guy said the exact same thin SG mentions above: the commercials write themselves.

They're not the voters that Clinton/Kaine are targeting. Pence's inaction did give us a preview of how the GOP is going to deal with it's dalliance with Donald and that's repurpose what the German Tour Guide did on Family Guy.
