So, Fox News vs Gretchen Carlson

And now Greta van Susteran has quit.

Could it be because the settlement made her look like a fool trying to defend Ailes? Or that it wouldn't back her in her defense of him?

Or is it because they gave Carlson $20 mil and won't pony up to pay her enough?

Why Greta Van Susteren is leaving Fox News so suddenly

Fox "has not felt like home to me for a few years and I took advantage of the clause in my contract which allows me to leave now," she wrote.

That clause is known as a "key man clause." It was triggered by Fox News chief Roger Ailes' resignation in late July amid a sexual harassment scandal. Once Ailes left, Van Susteren had a chance to leave too.

The sources said Van Susteren sought to renegotiate the terms of her contract -- and asked for a big bump in pay -- after Ailes resigned.

Fox executives refused to negotiate, one of the sources said.

There was a "financial disagreement," another one of the sources said.

Van Susteren was motivated to leave in part because she had been unhappy and uncomfortable with the way Ailes ran the network the past few years, and with the way the network was perceived, two of the sources said.

Ailes got the shame he deserved but got easy IMO. I glad Gretchen stood her ground. Fox is no longer a right leaning news outlet, they're an establishment leaning news outlet who will do what they have to to help the ruling elite.

All sexual harassers should be dealt with harshly, I just wish you libs were consistent with your condemnations. ;)

Yeah, that's why they are the media shills for Trump.

I do remember when she stuck her neck out to defend him. I think maybe there was just a lot happening that she wasn't aware of at the time, and in retrospect she would have done better to stay silent.

On the money thing, yeah. She wanted a raise and they wouldn't give her one. The way her contract worked, she had a 60-day window to decide whether to stay or leave and if she didn't quit now, she would be locked in.

Truth. After Donald loses the election, he can start Trump News with campaign allies Stephen Bannon (from Breitbart) and Roger Ailes. That network would never sell out and put someone like Juan Williams on its air. Time to wake up, White Man.

I hope Fox had these sense to include a no-compete clause in Ailes' $40 million golden parachute severence package, otherwise their lawyers are crap.

There's a non-compete clause for "media",... nothing on joining presidential campaigns, though. I think it runs three years.

The first part makes no sense to me. If she was so unhappy with Ailes then why leave the moment that he has departed. It sounds more like she wanted more money, FOXNews refused so she has taken her skills elsewhere...

She has stated that she has not liked the direction things have gone at the station recently. But as you say, that doesn't make sense because it should change with Ailes gone. Then again, she supported Ailes.

And, of course, on Facebook someone claimed that she is actually a liberal.

Just because it is going to change doesn't mean it will get better. It will still be Fox. She had this one window to get out of her contract without any penalties and she took it. Otherwise she would be stuck there for a few more years while they figured out how to run the place without the the perve in charge.

It sounds like she tried to renegotiate on her way out, which always happens if one side doesn't want to see the other go.

In another CNN article (perhaps an earlier version of the one I linked, I don't remember) it was claimed that she was hoping things would change, which is why she didn't leave as soon as Ailes did.

Supposedly, things didn't improve and that was one of the motivations for her choosing to leave.

Lol

Shills for Trump? They've done everything they could to sink him.

I disagree, they have given Trump thousands of hours of free publicity and whilst it's true that they mention his gaffes they very quickly move onto the next thing whilst in the past they would have continued to challenge another candidate (from either party) over such things.

The media is milking Trump for what he's worth: during the nomination, building him up was the best way to generate hype. After the Khan debacle, tearing him down was sure to get viewers.
Currently, Clinton is the easier target - but everyone is getting really bored of talking about Emails - hence the health nonsense.
I'm sure Trump is going to get hit with a least one more cycle of media criticism before November - but it might not be enough, given that Republicans tend to vote via absentee ballot.

For a network that's supposedly trying to "sink" Trump, they don't mind giving his advisor a nightly hour-long campaign ad.

One has to understand certain posters' idea of supporting a candidate. If the news readers aren't goose-stepping around the studio carrying lit torches while His Trumpiness speaks, they consider it support of Clinton.

I consider Trump a supporter of Clinton, performing a similar role to Ross Perot in 1992 -- serving as a lightning rod for Republican disaffection and using it to sink what otherwise might be an insurmountable advantage.

Well, sure, except that the post-election analysis after Perot made his splash showed that he drained votes pretty much equally from both Clinton and Bush.
