So, Fox News vs Gretchen Carlson

It's being reported that Roger Ailes is now free to explore other employment opportunities.

Reports are that the Murdochs have agreed that AIles must go,but disagree as to when an how. THe sons want to fire him for cause, Rupert he be permitted to resign with a golden parachute. Nothing will happen until the GOP convention is over.

Fox's token ugly, but still bimbo, Van Susteren

I gotta say: that's sexist.

Anyway, looks like Ailes is out. He will suddenly decide that what he really wants to do is "spend more time with my family". Fox probably won't say he was "fired" but a "mutual parting of ways" or something like that.

I hope Ailes starts a rival network. O'Reilly's contract is coming up. Ol' Bill can follow him.

Ann Coulter even thanked Huffington Post reporters Ryan Grim and Michael Calderone for informing her of Kelly’s decision to come forward and said it was “great news.”

Coulter, for her part, couldn’t believe that Ailes only harassed her once.

“That’s it?” Coulter told The Huffington Post. “Oh boy, I have better details than that, from every woman who has ever been employed by Fox, which I have not.”

So, Ann Coulter knew.

Anyway, word is that Megyn Kelly has privately told the lawyers investigating this that she was harrassed by Ailes about 10 years ago:

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/07/sources-kelly-said-ailes-sexually-harassed-her.html

According to two sources briefed on parent company 21st Century Fox’s outside probe of the Fox News executive, led by New York–based law firm Paul, Weiss, Kelly has told investigators that Ailes made unwanted sexual advances toward her about ten years ago when she was a young correspondent at Fox. Kelly, according to the sources, has described her harassment by Ailes in detail.
Kelly’s comments to investigators might explain why the Murdochs are moving so quickly to oust Ailes. As New York reported yesterday, Rupert and sons James and Lachlan, the three top executives at 21st Century Fox, have, according to multiple sources, decided that Ailes needs to be removed. Kelly, who has become something of a feminist icon thanks to her tangles with GOP nominee Donald Trump, is seen by many inside Fox as the future of the network. She’s currently in contract negotiations, and given that Bill O’Reilly has said he’s considering retirement, Fox can’t afford to lose her.

According to two sources, Monday afternoon lawyers for 21st Century Fox gave Ailes a deadline of August 1 to resign or face being fired for cause. Ailes’s legal team — which now includes Susan Estrich, former campaign manager for Michael Dukakis — has yet to respond to the offer. Ailes has also received advice on strategy from Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani, sources say.

Ailes’s strategy so far has included attacking Kelly in the press. According to sources, Ailes spokesperson Irena Briganti has been criticizing Kelly to reporters, saying she is selfish to not stand up for the man who gave her career opportunities. Roughly a dozen Fox women have praised Ailes since Carlson filed her suit. According to a Fox source, the pro-Ailes campaign has been led by Fox anchor Kimberly Guilfoyle, who has filled in hosting Carlson's former 2 p.m. time slot.

Briganti did not respond to a request for comment.

You have to wonder how many women took him up on it. Some, presumably.

I wonder if that list would be the same as the list of Fox News women defending him?

I wonder if any of Ailes' defenders will have the good grace to issue a mea culpa. I think O'Reilly might, but he might just clam up and retire.

Anyway, word is that Megyn Kelly has privately told the lawyers investigating this that she was harrassed by Ailes about 10 years ago:
If it was private, why is it being reported in the news? If it was private, why are attorneys betraying a confidence.

As to Ailes: big wig at a news organization that does infotainment more than news. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. If Rupert lets him step away, Ailes would be a fool not to take the chance with whatever color parachute they offer him. A lot of show business is rep. His rep seems to have declined, and these days "news" is more show business than it is anything else.

I'll wager a notional five bucks that Ailes and Rupert find a way to just move along and find someone else to be head (rule10) in charge.

Really?

But presumably the lawyers are reporting back to the company which hired them to do the investigation. The "sources" aren't necessarily the lawyers doing the interviews but could be people at Fox News who are receiving these briefings.

It's official:Ailes is out as head of Fox News. Story is on every major outlet.
Gee, maybe he could get together with Bill Cosby.

Mandatory Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky reference.

[I know our trolls avoid threads where "guilty" and "conservative" might be in the same sentence, but didn't want to deprive you LOL Libruls of their rapier-like wit.]

Well, it looks like the problems were not confined to only Mr Ailes himself:

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_facto...xual_harassment_culture_are_unsurprising.html

According to a new New York Times investigation, the other leaders of Fox News may have been emboldened by Ailes' alleged sexism. More than 10 women told the Times they’d endured sexual harassment as employees of Fox News or Fox Business Network, and several others said they saw fellow employees become victims of harassment. Just two of these cases involved Ailes; the rest of the acts were perpetrated by other supervisors at the networks. They are uniformly horrifying.

Could be Fox News' Taihook moment. Maybe from now on women won't feel like they have to put up with this and "be a good sport" just to survive there.

The Horror. The Horror:
A one-time Fox reporter told the Times that every time she met with Ailes, he bookended their encounters with a hug and a kiss, the latter of which he’d try to land on the lips.
Another said she endured Ailes’ hugs and simply turned her face so his kisses wouldn’t make it to her lips.

Did Hannity and O'Reilly get that treatment too? Cause that would be hot.
