Mother Terisa gets there at last

When Hitchens plagiarized from the WaPo, google did not exist. Plus, Chris was SELLING his book, which is a bit different than having a conversation on a backwater message board where ridiculously simple to confirm facts like, where did Saint Teresa die.
Don't you get tired of this disingenuous nonsense? Hitch used the same quote from MT as the WaPo did. Journalists and authors do that daily, gazillion times. That's not plagiarizing. The rest of Hitchens' text bears no resemblance to the WaPo article, he didn't copy a word of it.

No I addressed the point in your post that you put in there for a reason, Right?

Well, okay, if you think addressing a half a sentence in a post which contains 18 paragraphs is addressing everything in that post, then I'm sure you're right. It seems like you're doing your usual trick of latching on to an easy victory in order to avoid addressing anything more substantive which you cannot refute. But perhaps that perception is wrong and it's somehow a synecdoche of the entire post which contains substantive replies to all the other parts of the post squirrelled away within it like a fractal.

And even in doing so, you're avoiding the actual point - Mother Teresa allowed herself a higher standard of care than she did those she purportedly took care of. If you don't like that one source (which, you'll note, says absolutely nothing about her death, even though you have chosen that as your rebuttal), how about one that positively fawns over her? http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wor...rt-fails-nobelist-missionary-article-1.769700

She spent much of her last years in and out of hospitals, being treated for heart and kidney ailments, and malaria.

That says she was in and out of hospitals. WOW! That is a killer point!

I was a bit surprised that people get angry at me for rebutting an easily disproved lie (that she received palliative care in a "modern US hospital") than the people who lied about it in the first place. Oh well...

This article asserts that she died at her own convent in Kolkata, India.

I don't have any dogs in this race and am interested in separating out the facts.

yeah, you are wrong.

About the subject of the current discussion? Perhaps you can admit that consensus does not favor your abrupt (and unsupported) dismissal.

Perhaps you might actually address the question of the issue of the difference between the care she provided and the care to which she availed herself.

Perhaps you might consider addressing the money issue.

Perhaps you would be so kind as to drop the grossly disingenuous and patronizing tone.

I see. You understand neither the meaning of "disingenuous", nor the meaning of "patronizing".

Would you, personally, respond better were I to lace my discourse with masked vulgarity?

I, personally, would prefer for you to answer the questions...

No I addressed the point in your post that you put in there for a reason, Right?

About palliative care, which as we just showed was false...<snip for focus>

I see. we can add "palliative" to the list of words, the meaning of which you, personally, are innocent.

What, specifically, did MT do to "alleviate (suffering)"?

What were the anodyne protocols she followed?

...and what was "plagiarized" was a direct quotation of MT's own words...

(One is reminded of Charles Barkley's claim that he was misquoted in his autobiography.)

That she allowed herself a much higher standard of care than she gave to those who came to her.

"Angry" is an odd straw man. And you haven't rebutted that claim. You have instead noted that she died at her home, which is something I've yet to see anybody claim otherwise.

That says she was in and out of hospitals. WOW! That is a killer point!

Perhaps you might explain how many of the poor, whose suffering (in her own words) she found so beautiful and uplifting, were given the same care, with the money she raised??

How...droll. Care to address an actual issue?

Is it your contention that she was not treated at Scripps, in La Jolla (having crossed the US/Mexico border to get there) in 1991?

Is it instead your contention that her treatment at Scripps consisted of being told her suffering was "beautiful" and she should "lift it up"?

That whole "bearing false witness" thing is a bit problematic...

Perhaps you might explain exactly what she did to "alleviate (suffering)".

Talk about your unsupported points!!!

Look, I have been through this same nonsense before. She got sick in Rome, she went to a hospital in Rome, she went to Tijuana, and the doctors treating her there moved her to a local hospital.

She was dying and got palliative care at her own convent in Kolkata, India.

Perhaps you will be so kind as to indicate how many of the poor whose suffering she found so "beautiful" and "uplifting", received the same level of care?

I see. we can add "local" to thee growing list of words you do not scruple to use incorrectly.

She was dying and got palliative care at her own convent in Kolkata, India.

Was she, or was she not, treated (with more than "lift up your beautiful suffering") at Scripps in 1991?

This article states that she was treated at Scripps.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta was listed as seriously ill Monday in the intensive care unit of Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation after experiencing heart failure and undergoing a procedure to open a blocked artery.

The 81-year-old Roman Catholic missionary and Nobel Prize winner is responding to treatment but will be hospitalized for at least a week, clinic spokeswoman Sue Pondrom said.

Mother Teresa was admitted to the renowned La Jolla clinic Thursday for treatment of bacterial pneumonia, and on Saturday developed symptoms of myocardial ischemia, an inadequate blood supply to the heart, Pondrom said.

Unless someone cares to dispute the article as fraudulent, it seems inescapable that Teresa received superior, costlier care at this facility -- where she was hospitalized for at least a week -- compared to the poor conditions at her own facility for the impoverished.

What facility for the impoverished? I mean you say it as if she was running a hospital in the area, which is false.

I know, lets get some real facts:

Dr. Aubanel was originally from Tijuana, Mexico, and in 1990 the Catholic bishop of that city called her in California. The bishop asked her to see an elderly friend of his who had been in Tijuana and had gone to the San Diego area, was very ill and had not seen a doctor. She found Mother Teresa in a Missionaries of Charity convent, suffering from pneumonia and popping about 20 nitroglycerin pills a day for chest pain.

She refused to go to the hospital.

"I'm happy to go to Jesus," Mother Teresa said.

"Are you finished with your mission?" the doctor demanded.

For years Mother Teresa had been asking nearly everyone she met to pray that her sisters would be able to get into China. Now she asked, "Would you help me to go to China? Imagine all the souls for Jesus."

"I said that I will do everything that is possible so you can get to China," Dr. Aubanel said. Mother Teresa finally consented, entered Scripps Clinic and had five blood vessels to her heart unblocked.

It also says:

All of those hospitals, of course, in the USA. And probably all paid by insured Americans; at least of the time she fell ill in Tijuana - and was spirited over the border to a fancy San Diego hospital - I'm sure the hospital waived the bill.

The article further states:
aiding the starving in Ethiopia, comforting radiation-scarred victims from Chernobyl, Ukraine, helping earthquake victims in Armenia.
As to Chernobyl, I could only find that she wanted to open a mission there (the nuns must be glowing), not that she actually opened one or helped. For the Armenian earthquake, she managed to talk the Soviet authorities into accepting eight of her nuns, but:
Four of Mother Teresa's nuns will be given three rooms at the Institute of Neurosurgery in Moscow, where they will live and work with victims of spinal injuries and other severe trauma ''who need both physical rehabilitation and spiritual assistance,'' said Arkady V. Lifshitz, a professor with the institute.
So they provided "spiritual assistance". My guess is that's code for secretly baptizing before they croak.

She's a typical disaster tourist, travelling from one disaster to another and then offering sham help much like Scientology does.

Talk about your unsupported points!!!

You think it's unsupported that she was hospitalised several times? And you say this after admitting that she was hospitalised.

Look, I have been through this same nonsense before. She got sick in Rome, she went to a hospital in Rome, she went to Tijuana, and the doctors treating her there moved her to a local hospital.

Are you contending that she went into hospital on just the one occasion?

One wonders why she was not willing to simply lift up her beautiful suffering...

In the previous thread on MT, you insisted that she ran a "clinic" in Tijuana:
The Bishops prevailed upon Theresa to go to a hospital, because her illness outstripped the facilities of the Clinics. "sought out." How silly.
You also quoted from a linked reference:
Her primary physician at Scripps, Dr. Patricia Aubanel, who also has a clinic in Tijuana,
But MT is above being treated in the midst of those dirty Mexicans?

ETA: a clinic is nothing else than a small hospital, or an out-patient hospital, so why couldn't she be treated there? :sarcasm:

W.T.F. That makes NO SENSE at all. and then you ask if I am contending she went to the hospital on one occasion, when I just said she went to a Hospital in Rome and near Tijuana.

C'mon man.....
