Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part IV

Except the federal government is nothing like a business.

And even if I did want a businessman in the White House I would chose a competant one instead of Donald Trump.

You're just conditioned to have someone from the ruling elite, as they enrich themselves on the people's back.

I am having trouble parsing this sentence, may I ask you to rephrase it?
"Our"
ETA
and if Trump is the marvelous businessman he claims he is, why won't he release his most recent tax filings, or the year before that, or the year before that? The tax returns should add weight to his claims of being exceptionally financially savvy.
Because when it comes to taxes every person walks right up to the line, that will be something for the dems exploit.

As opposed to your Fuhrer who is literally about to go on trial for defrauding thousands of people.

I don't know what you're talking about when you say "ruling elite". Sound like bull crap buzz words to me. Obama was raised by a single mother in a tiny house in Hawaii and attended public schools.

Trump on the other hand was the son of a multi-millionaire, thrown out of one private school for bullying and was enrolled in amother. Privileged and connected.

What the hell does that mean? No offense, but you continue to say nothing. How about some specificity? What taxes?

So far, all I get from you is Obama/Clinton bad...Trump good. And not a god damn reason why.

And how do you separate out students who have left home from students who still feel like they are just at boarding school? When I went to college, I was not at boarding school, I'd lived on my own for years. Just because I left some stuff at my parents house doesn't mean I still lived there.

Many Republicans want to deny college students reside in the state their college is in if they moved there from out of state. That's bull.

Oh? Where do you get this idea?

Far as I understand it, a person can declare his permanent residence in a college town without any difficulty. Have these (evil) Republicans put some nefarious roadblocks in the way? Where and how?

Thanks.

(Goodness knows that the GOP does much I dislike regarding voting. I'm opposed to voter ID laws and I think that the GOP is more active or at least better at gerrymandering. But if they actually have done anything to prevent out-of-state college students from changing their voter registration, it is news to me.)

Head of Trump's Hispanic Advisory Board Resigns After Phoenix Speech

"I was a strong supporter of Donald Trump when I believed he was going to address the immigration problem realistically and compassionately," he told Politico. “What I heard today was not realistic and not compassionate.”

Well, that worked out good.

Really? Trump didn't come through on his assurances?
At this stage, if any individual or organisation is still taking him at his word, they only really have themselves to blame if their expectations are not met.
Payaso.

So the guy whose entire career was based on daddy's connections and money isn't part of the elite? And Trump hasn't enriched himself off the backs of others by putting his name on projects that turned out to be disasters, and then walking away? The man is actually on trial for committing fraud by swindling money out of people with his phoney university. If Trump isn't a member of the 'elite' then no one is!

They should have listened to Trump's "snake" story a few more times.

During the meeting the Mexican president told your Fuhrer he wasn't going to pay for the wall, you know his top policy. And then your Fuhrer lied about it.

So Presidential.

The vast majority of Mexicans hate your Fuhrer. For obvious reasons.

I think calling Trump a Fuhrer is a bit over the top. Trump may have the ego and lick-spittle followers Hitler had, but he doesn't have the leadership or organizational skills that Hitler possessed. He also lacks Hitler's attention span and work ethic. Remember, Hitler wrote his OWN book. He didn't need a ghost writer.

I think Trump is better compared to some of the hotheads who founded the NAZI party and were subsequently murdered by Hitler's supporters in the "Night of Long Knives." Trump may help the next Hitler rise to power, but he'll end up regretting it.

Fine. I am prepared to accept your conditional and choose someone not from the ruling elite. Even then Trump is still a ridiculously awful choice for two reasons.

1) he does not have the temperament to be president. He is far too easily baited. He does not have the patience to be president and he certainly does not have the empathy to be president. This is a skeptic board, I am willing to change my mind if you can show me evidence that Trump has empathy and self-control. But I want to point out: despite the Republican echo chamber insisting that it is, reading a speech from a TelePrompTer is not an example of self control. How surreal it is to have a POTUS candidate be praised for reading an entire speech without adding any personal thoughts. Shouldn't that be the reddest of red flags? He can read an entire speech without adding any personal thoughts.

2) he is not a surround-himself-with-smart-and-competitant-people guy. Trump HATES being told is is wrong. When we say that he thinks he is the smartest guy in the room we are not exaggerating. According to Trump, He knows more about being a cop than career policemen, he knows more about how to use the military than anyone in the military, he knows more about foreign policy than anyone who has studied or worked in the field. I hate go back to Reagan, but Reagan was a president who knew how to choose advisors and when to listen to them. For me it is not a Democrat/Republican thing. Even G.W.B. knew more about how to fill out the cabinet than Trump does (even though he is the ruling elite and must be discounted).

The guy is a fast talking conman who will say anything to close the deal.

I will accept a candidate who is not from the ruling elite, but he has to know the difference Consitutional Amendments and Constitutional Articles. He doesn't have to be able to cite either from memory, he just has to know that they are different things. Trump cannot even clear that bar.

ETA
.... And shows absolutely no desire to even learn the difference after he flubbed it!

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your post. Are you saying that Trump does something that every single tax payer in the United States does, but somehow the Democrats will exploit that?

It is a cornerstone of his campaign - Trump claims to be the cleverest businessman in the country. Wouldn't paying very few taxes be incontrovertible evidence of those claim?

I read Trump's deposition for the Trump U lawsuit. Seems like his memory isn't all that great, perhaps an early sign of Mad Cow disease.

I think it's more a natural consequence of being a pathological liar and a narcissist. There comes a point where the likes collapse in on themselves and that lawsuit was an example of the mess left behind by such a collapse.

With the exception of the Clinton administration, all the presidencies since Reagan have had a goofball VP, apparently as an effort to discourage assassination attempts. For example, nobody who wanted to kill The Shrubbery would have wanted Dick Cheney to take his place. Trump however, by picking a far more competent politician who could have been a POTUS contender himself as VP is flipping the equation. He's giving people across the political spectrum a motivation to assassinate him. While most the really crazy Republicans are in his camp, if he waffles on the wall yet his VP remains firm on the idea, I think the secret service is going to end up VERY busy for the duration of a Trump Presidency.

How was me asking you a question lying or putting words in your mouth?

You asked what's called a "loaded question." In it you drew a false equivalence between overtly Communist countries like Cuba and moderate socialism as advocated by Sanders. It would be like me using your support of Trump to ask you if you're looking forward to personally massacring Muslims under Trump the way Hitler killed the Jews. Such a question, like the one you posed, would by hyperbolic vitriol, not a serious question.

Lol Hilarious.

More than likely they will have a working relationship that will help both countries accomplish what each wants. I don't think you understand politics too well.

Seriously?

You seriously think Trump is going to have a good working relationship with a man he openly accused of deliberately sending rapists and murderers in the United States and whom he has promised to stick with a 17 to 20 BILLION dollar construction bill?

Unless Trump completely wimps out on the wall and sticking Mexico with the bill, a strong likelihood given the spinelessness he's revealing, he's going to have a very contentions relationship with whoever is running Mexico.

That requires a special talent. Peculiar, even.

One or two of those bankruptcies had more to do with a collapsing gambling industry than anything else. The other bankruptcies had two primary causes:

1. He had casinos that were competing with each other. They were doing OK during a gambling boom, but there wasn't enough business to keep them BOTH open when the bubble burst.

2. He built lavish casinos towards the tail end of what was already becoming known as a bubble about to burst.

The key for Trump however is this didn't hurt him personally. The investors he talked into the casinos were the ones who got taken to the cleaners, as were the vendors and staff supporting them. This is one reason he's going to have trouble negotiating anything as POTUS. He's well known to be a predatory negotiator. He's not looking for a mutually beneficial compromise that will build national relationships for generations to come, he's looking to burn bridges as fuel for short term personal gain, preferably at the expense of anyone he does business with. I've worked with men like Trump in the past. They're very good at getting other people to put up the capital and take the risks without doing so themselves.

It is a Trump thread. Of course there will be small derails, but if a topic is covering several pages and is not even tangentially related to Trump, then it needs its own thread.

So after a couple weeks of hemming and hawing about it, Trump is essentially back where he started on what to do with illegal immigrants. No maybe we'll let some of them stay but "they’ll pay back taxes." He still left himself some wiggle room though I think, but he sounded tough and angry, which I assume is what he was going for.

Meanwhile the president of Mexico looks like a doormat that Trump just wiped his shoes off on. The reaction down there is he is an appeaser and a weak-kneed disgrace.

Mexicans Accuse President of ‘Historic Error’ in Welcoming Donald Trump

His critiques aimed at Trump were phrased in very diplomatic and non-confrontational language. Whether or not Trump lied about what was said between them behind closed doors is irrelevant. For those who have been paying any attention it would just be documented lie No. 3742 or something. Lies don't hurt Trump anymore, he's been called out for so many already. Anyone willing to listen must already know about dozens of them, so one more makes little difference. His true believers of course won't care or won't believe.

Some had speculated that his Mexico trip might end up being a political disaster for Trump, but that doesn't appear to be the case. It's a disaster for Nieto but not for Trump. And Trump twisted the knife further with the speech he gave upon returning to US soil.

I stand corrected.

In terms of national relations however this is worse than what I imagined. It's becoming very clear that any relationship a POTUS Trump has with Mexico will be problematic at best.

His candidacy started by accusing Mexico of sending criminals into America. That's been clear since day one.
