Going to a psychic medium party

Be careful not to get yourself isolated - this could seriously mess with your friendship.

You make an excellent point. I am honored that my friend invited me to this knowing that I'm not a believer in the supernatural. She knows me well enough to know I would not be a disruption in any way. For me it's all about the entertainment and to pick up a few pointers so to speak.
It's my friends party and the psychics show. I wouldn't heckle her anymore than I would heckle any other performer. If someone wants to discuss it with me afterwards, that's another story. I would give my opinion if asked. If I was in a private discussion with a psychic, that would be different.
From what I can tell, my friends beliefs are not causing harm to her friends and family. She gets enjoyment and motivation from it and isn't spending anymore than anyone would spend on hosting a Super Bowl party.
I'm not going to be changing her beliefs and it isn't my intention.
Although I do like the line from Rufus in my signature.

I wouldn't. I had this done to me, almost same circumstances; the "psychic" was obviously primed with a lot of info about me, the organizer of the encounter made a point to tell everybody how the crook nailed me * and pestered me into following me into her hobbies.

* (she didn't. Most of what she "revealed" was either common knowledge or inexact, some was spectacularly wrong but exactly what the "friend" had been imagining and blabbering about to most of my entourage ... ).

I can understand how you would feel. In this case, the woman hosting the party just isn't that type of person. I'm not sure I've ever heard her had a bad word about anyone and doesn't have the "gotcha"

Thanks for correcting the spelling. I'm somewhat familiar with "The Sleeping Profit". If this medium is indeed a student of A.R.E, then I kinda feel bad for her. She's already been scammed out of some serious dough.

It might be spelled incorrectly for the intended audience, but as far as the motivation, it's spot-on.

Your friend is likely devoid of any malevolence, but I wouldn't vouch for the "medium".
Those vampire's aren't all that keen on converting skeptics. They rather count on such occasions to reaffirm their grip on the gullible.

Mediums tend to be very good at getting information out of people without people noticing they're doing it. It's practically a job description.

This should be fun. I have done a little research on tomorrow's psychic/medium/healer/bible interpriter. From her bio on her website, I expect her to be entertaining. I'll give a report afterwards and if anyone wants to know who they are or their website I will provide it through a PM.
Ill tell you this, their address is Lily Dale, NY.

So if you want to make a point without being a dick I have a method that might work.

If you can pull off giving off the wrong signals about your sexual orientation and seem kinda skeptical, they will jump on you. Just agree with everything the psychic says and say nothing afterwards. Your friends will seer how wrong the psychic is and you have done nothing wrong.

It certainly can be tricky. If it looks like a cold reading, then don't be confrontational but also don't provide any information that the medium didn't themselves provide.

"I am picking up an E- did anyone you know just died with an e in their name or in their nickname or in their job description.. Or a J? Or an N?"
"Gee- E is pretty common, so are J's and N's and I can't think of anyone specifically in terms of those letters- please tell me more about the name you are seeing and maybe I can figure it out."

"You are hurting about a major recent event in your life. Isn't that true?"
"Well, not really- please tell me more about the event you are seeing because I just don't know what you mean here." or
"Yes I am about several- which one are you discussing?" or even
"Yes" or
"No"

"You just had a pet die!"
"Yes I did. Tell me more about it please."

Hot reading with information possibly supplied by your friend would be much harder to prevent.

I remember a TV special in which James Randi investigated various Russian psychics. Two women who could supposedly divine details about someone's life from their photograph were quite frustrated when he just sat there, writing down everything they said, without providing any feedback.
I'm not sure what was funnier, them identifying Ted Bundy as a loving family man deeply involved in his community, or the backpedaling they did once Randi revealed who the man in the photo was.
"I said he had sad eyes...the eyes of a sadist."

JPK had me watch bunch of those shows about Randi, pretty awesome lolll

My youngest daughter wants to go to a psychic for her 17th birthday. I'm thinking of creating an entirely fictional back story for myself and request a reading.
Hoping that will make her see what hogwash this is. She's a pretty rational kid so I think this is mostly curiosity.
I'd go to a party but probably have a very hard time keeping my comments to myself and not starting a fight.

Should be a fun evening.

Rather depends on what frequency you resonate . After many experiences with some of the best mediums , I found that their undoubted abilities only allow them to " read " your mind , often to an amazing detail level , but , unsurprisingly , they are clueless about the future .Any decent medium will let you take notes during the "reading " but some would not allow me to record them .

What are these frequencies?

God help us . Every item -- including people --- has its unique frequency . I do not offer that as an opinion .
If you say so. How many oscillation per second is yours - if it is not privileged information?
