Maybe the thought has occurred to him: what if I don't win, what then? How does he go back to being the guy he used to be?
Talk show host comes to mind. He can work rabble rousing the same demographic - plenty already make a living at it.

"Next on Trump! Georgia's Grand wizard tells us the history of the '14 Words' and how to use them. After that, Token Jones shows last us his hilarious family recipe for salted watermelon slices. You won't BELIEVE who the top secret guest is who tries them! Don't miss the next Trump!"
OK, a single show isn't enough. It will be a whole network.
That's what some in the right wing blogosphere are suggesting. The Trump Network. An Alt-right news network to compete with Fox for the dwindling paleo-conservative demographic. It's a Bannon wet dream.
...
Trump and advisers remain split on how far to move toward the middlean opportunity for him to settle on a position and document it

The guy he "used" to be was making a living selling his name to developers he couldn't care less about to attract rubes who didn't know any better to put deposits on buildings that would never be finished. The Presidency has been FANTASTIC for his business because now everyone knows his name and 30% of people still like him.Maybe the thought has occurred to him: what if I don't win, what then? Did he forgot how poorly his callus and self serving reaction to the Orlando shooting went over? .
You are implying that he learned that lesson in the first place. Perhaps I am being too pedantic, but a person cannot forget a lesson that the person never learned.

Most of them certainly are.
The reason that they are not trying to push back from it is extremely clear. Because they know what she said is true. And because they don't want to be associated with the alt right. Because they know it is a losing strategy with changing demographics. If they thought they could win with it, they would have zero issue.
Sucks for them.
The junior Senator from my state (Jeff Flake) is a pretty good guy for a Republican. He refuses to support the human trash his party nominated, didn't go to the hate convention, didn't sign that treasonous letter to Iran like his 47 colleagues did, ect.
He is like Brick from Anchorman, "I LOVE LAMP!"
That's where the con is being run. Never leaving his glittering throne (I will buy a hat and then eat that hat if he doesn't have at least one private, incredibly ostentatious shrine to himself), he leases his name to developers who'll take on investments and deposits for downmarket "Trump" properties, not quite trailer parks but getting there, selling it as if it's 100% Trump's thing and not Disposable Shell Company's. Then the money disappears, DSC goes under, and the other investors have no one to sue because legally Trump just sold the use of his name and is not personally on the hook for any of it.But they are the wrong 30%. They aren't the fabulously wealthy but the Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty crowd. Hicks with no teeth and no money who wouldn't be allowed on 5th Avenue, much less Trump Tower. These aren't the people shelling out 2 million dollars for 700 square feet in Manhattan, no they are the crowd paying $7,000 for a single wide in Louisiana.

It's the same con he's run his whole life, just down the ladder a peg and ruining his own name instead of his father's. So yeah, not trailer parks yet, but soon enough.
What would make that documentation any different from the dozen other versions he's on the record stating?
He's not doing the work. He just takes the money (up front, I'll bet) from lesser con men who then do the work. They're probably lined up outside his door.Doesn't seem ideal to me. Seems like you're trading Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous for Walmart and the Piggy Wiggly store. 5th Avenue and the Hamptons for Mississippi and the Ozarks. For a guy who has spent most of his whole in Limousines and private jets, this seems like trading down.
Sure, Trump can make a buck but this seems like very hard work. But hey, what do I know? I'm not a con man. Maybe it's easier to steal $100 from 10,000 people than $1,000,000 from 1.

You didn't just fail to use her name, you misspelled her famous cousin's in your pandering tweet.
