Trump runs for POTUS / Trumped Up! Part IV

From what I can tell there has been very little push back from Republican elected "leaders" (McConnell, Ryan) regarding Hillary's great speech regarding Donald and the alt right. Wonder why that might be.

Don't worry, you'll come up with some nefarious reason eventually. Just start with the premise that all Republicans are vicious, morally bankrupt animals and work from there.

Most of them certainly are.

The reason that they are not trying to push back from it is extremely clear. Because they know what she said is true. And because they don't want to be associated with the alt right. Because they know it is a losing strategy with changing demographics. If they thought they could win with it, they would have zero issue.

Sucks for them.

I'm not sure I can handle the concept that some Republicans are less evil than other Republicans. It confuses me.

The junior Senator from my state (Jeff Flake) is a pretty good guy for a Republican. He refuses to support the human trash his party nominated, didn't go to the hate convention, didn't sign that treasonous letter to Iran like his 47 colleagues did, ect.

I think Flake and Susana Martinez should take over the GOP and spank Ryan and McConnell soundly with the election results newspaper. I like Jeff Flake and was disappointed he and Martinez didn't get in the ring. Of course, then the whole wrestling season was spoiled by the Jabroni taking over. Sigh. It's enough to make me wish there were actual conspiracies running behind the scenes instead of the chaos theory politics we seem to have.

Here's the thing. I don't actually believe that about most Republican leaders. However, that hasn't stopped even the best of them from using racial language that subtly appeals to the worst in humanity. The other part of the puzzle is that GOP economic policies do not help the poor and disadvantaged so minorities are hurt even more.

I wouldn't vote for Jeff Flake if he ran for President but if he did and won the nomination, I would think much better of the GOP, assuming he didnt have to go right wing nutjob.

It seems that about face on immigration is already having consequences:

Sarah Palin warns Donald Trump on deportation U-turn

Trump is going to fall flat on his face. Alienating that core support he stirred up while failing to attract new voters to replace them.

And demographically the ones seeing him again calling for mass deportations (including deportation of U.S. citizens) are a far bigger demographic than his core support in Arizona. The base may forgive him - until he starts walking back on his back-walking. But the larger, younger demographic needs to vote. I think they will - they are an organized and motivated bloc.

Trump is simply stupid.

His tweet :

Just watched recap of #CrookedHillary's speech. Very short and lies. She is the only one fear-mongering!

So the RECAP of the speech was short, well that is a surprise!

Interesting.

This part is a bit weird.

Bannon's ex-wife is registered with a homeless person's address?

"Clohesy, who has worked on conservative films produced by Bannon since their divorce, also has a voting arrangement that appears to contravene Florida regulations. Rather than register to vote from her rented homes in Miami, she was and continues to be registered to vote in neighboring Broward County from a mailbox at a shipping facility in the city of Pompano Beach.

The use of such mailbox addresses is not allowed by Broward County, which requires that residents use their home address. “You have to give the address where you live, so you can’t use a PO box,” said Tonya Edwards, a spokeswoman for the county supervisor of elections.

Clohesy appears in the county election register as living at 102 Governmental Center, which is actually the address of the elections supervisor’s office. Edwards, the spokeswoman for the office, told the Guardian this designation was intended for homeless people."

I think I understand now why republicans think there is so much voter fraud going on - they figure, they are all doing it, so everyone else must be doing it, too.

The voter ID thing is just there to make sure that the wrong people aren't doing it.

This article in the Washington Post is really a must read (the whole thing, it just keeps getting more and more bizarre with each paragraph). It's about Trump trying to figure how much to "soften" his position on immigration.

Trump and advisers remain split on how far to move toward the middle

At one point he seems to be literally asking the people at his rallies to tell him what his position should be:
At an immigration-focused town hall in Texas on Tuesday, which was later broadcast on Fox News, Trump repeatedly polled his audience on what he should do, allowing his internal conflicts to play out publicly.

“Can we go through a process? Or do you think they have to get out?” he asked the audience. “Tell me. I mean, I don’t know, you tell me.”

Trump provided the crowd a sympathetic portrait of a theoretical illegal immigrant who has been in the country more than a decade, building a life with children and a stable job. He repeatedly asked if that sort of person should be allowed to stay or be kicked out of the country, getting results that were often difficult to measure. At one point, Trump asked who in the crowd wanted all illegal immigrants thrown out, even the law-abiding ones, and a man stood up and bellowed: “I do!”

Fox News’s Sean Hannity then asked Trump: “You heard from the audience. What does your gut tell you you want to do?”

“Well, look, this is like a poll, this is like a poll,” Trump said. “And I love the guy that stood up and said — where is that guy? I love this guy. That’s my guy. I mean, I get it. I get it. And I understand what you’re saying. But this is sort of like a poll. And this is what I’m getting all over the country.”
. . .

This week the campaign twice started to plan an event where Trump could give an immigration speech — an opportunity for him to settle on a position and document it — only to cancel without a clear explanation.

I guess Ann is fine with wherever Trump decides to land after all:

By Wednesday, Coulter seemed confident again in Trump’s candidacy as she attended a book party in Washington and told Bloomberg News’s Joshua Green: “My worship for him is like the people of North Korea worship their Dear Leader — blind loyalty. Once he gave that Mexican rapist speech, I’ll walk across glass for him. That’s basically it. . . . I’ll criticize him, and I have, but it’s all minor stylistic stuff. We all want to shoot him at various times.”

Trump may be walking back his position on immigration? I wonder if someone in the Trump camp -- possibly even The Don himself -- is looking beyond November? Looking at a scenario, we lose the election. We're not President, that's over. Then what?

The problem for Trump would be, he has now rebranded himself. The well-to-do people who buy his condos, play golf at his clubs, a lot of those people are not going to want to be connected to the Trump brand. In the eyes of many Trump has turned himself into a hateful buffoon. His core consumer constituency and his core political constituency are probably not the same people. The people who go to his rallies and cheer him on are probably not going to followup by buying one of his condos, play golf at one of his clubs, stay at one of his five-star hotels. They're not that demographic. They don't have the money.

I think already many corporations would probably not book at a Trump hotel. There are other quality hotels out there, why risk being criticized, why risk alienating employees who are anti-Trump? In fact, many corporations have already cut ties with Trump. Supposedly he is on hiatus from The Apprentice, but will NBC take him back? I don't think they will.

When he was a private businessman the media mostly left him alone. Once he decided he wanted to be President and, for a while there, made it look like he might pull it off, the media began to investigate him, look into his past: who is Donald Trump? A pretty nasty picture emerged. All the bankruptcies, the accusations of fraud, he's blacklisted by most major banks, the many investors and clients who lost millions of dollars after getting involved with him, people Trump never did anything to help, the role his father played in keeping him solvent. Very bad for the image.

Maybe the thought has occurred to him: what if I don't win, what then? How does he go back to being the guy he used to be?
