I know. This is the kind of thing that drives me crazy. When you make an agreement with another nation, it important that you keep to your end. That is what drove me crazy about when Carter handed back Panama to Panama. He was just completing the terms of our agreement.

Wait a week for the full effect. My guess it will grow and level off. But it won't really matter till the debates. That's when the polls usually get locked in. After that they don't usually change much.

Here's a good analysis from the New York Times. Basically, Trump is putting all his effort into winning the big battleground states. He has no realistic chance if he doesn't win them all; that being said, he's likely to lose at least one (Pennsylvania) and probably two (Florida).

Something close to a quarter of the Florida electorate is Latino. You simply can't lose a quarter of the electorate by 85-15% and expect to win the state. The math's just not there.

Trump's strategy requires he carry 3 must win swing states which are Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania and PA is not really a swing state. And Trump is down by 9 there. As much as the Bernie supporters wanted Warren Kaine was the right choice. He really could be the difference maker in Florida and Virginia.

I don't have a crystal ball and I'm never totally comfortable about the outcome of any election. And I know from history throughout the world that nut jobs sometimes do get elected. I'd much rather Democrats feel they can lose than to think it's going to be a cakewalk.

Far too many people think this is going to be easy than I'm comfortable with. I want them working hard to make it damn clear that this is too important an election to take for granted. They need to vote, their spouses need to vote, their friends need to vote, their dearly departeds need to vote.

And then we can have not only a progressive in the White House but a working majority as well. Without which it will be hard if not impossible to make any real progress.

And while I do believe that if we Dems get out the vote Trump will be crushed like an ant, we still need to get out the vote.

What can I do to get out the vote?


I live in Georgia.

First thing, call campaign HQ in Georgia. They will tell you all sorts of things from the smallest of things to the largest.

You can do everything from canvassing your precinct to working a phone bank, to delivering yard signs, to driving people to the polls. I have worked in a dozen campaigns and have done pretty much everything. They always need people and while it's work, it's fun too. You can do as little as you want or as much as you want. You also will meet people you like.

My problem always is, it's hard for me to do just a little. But it is totally up to you. Go for it. It could change your life. It did me. I met my wife volunteering on a campaign.

If she wins the "Blue Wall" (the 18 states plus DC which have gone blue the last six elections) plus Florida, that's 271. Congratulations, President Clinton. PA is one of the states in the "Blue Wall", but she would have a lot more chances to replace those 20 electoral votes if she happened to lose it (and, again, she is plus-9 in PA right now.)
