Oscar Pistorius shoots girlfriend - Part 2

OP did not want his valntine dead, he loved her for pitie's sake.
From day one I thought the proposition he would deliberately kill a gorgeous blonde specimen was absurd.
Masipa affirms, end of story.
Code red stupidity.

I am a liberal in these matters, which makes me wish for absolution for aggressor and victim.
The victim in this case requires no forgiveness, particularly from any of her murderer's sleazy sycophants.

I've always thought the fact he lacked lower legs is totally irrelevent to the case.

The little display of how vulnerable he was walking was a joke.

I've known people who can quite happily sprint and roll round playing ball games in disabled games

I think the argument is that he felt more threatened because he was disabled.

Which is a nice excuse but bollocks

I will not categorically say that one can never been in a situation where one feels vulnerable and engages with a firearm and not be justified.

In his case, I think he and Reeva Steenkamp had a fight and he exploded. From what I have read, there is evidence of previous domestic abuse and there was sounds of arguing at the scene. I have also listened to a domestic abuse specialist who read her texts and there was a definite problem.

While I consider that the prosecution needs to prove a crime occurred, the self defense argument in many ways is a special case which the defense does have to show that it really was self defense (even in cases of imperfect self defense).

The bloke is an Olympic sprinter.

The rest of his body is built of pure muscle.

His vulnerability argument is a joke when you compare it, to say a lone slight female or an elderly person

I agree that he is a special case in that regard. I am just saying that if there was no evidence of domestic abuse from him and evidence was counter, there had been evidence of previous break ins (maybe a neighbor), and other factors I might look at it differently.

DF, did you consider that Masipa might have more brains than a jury of nitwits and morons that we see ignoring all science in ruminations, juries that are bereft of independent gods eye views of cases.
God help Pistorius if a jury were let loose on this case, where it is beyond any doubt he thought he was shooting an intruder.
I can't believe the bloodthirst of the haters here. The poor fool is a victim!!!

You claim the physical attractiveness of the victim proves she wasn't murdered, and the jury are are nitwits and morons?!

Incredible.

To be blunt, there have been a lot of extremely attractive people (mainly women) who have been murdered by their spouse or lover. In most cases, I truly believe that they loved the person whom they murdered but there is no doubt that the partner committed the murder.

You need to revisit that belief.

What those people call love is no more than a need to possess.

Love doesn't work like that, and I do not believe that any person who murders someone else ever "loved" the victim in any way worth the name.

I don't think we can say for certain exactly what love is. . . .You admit that the murder often thinks they love the victim though and that is what is important here.

No, but I can say with certainty what it isn't.

It isn't beating the crap out of her; it isn't trying to control her, and it most definitely isn't owning her.

David Berkowitz thought he heard the voice of god.

What people think is vastly overrated as evidence of anything.

Mapisa doesn't have the brains to judge a littering case.

In a thread dealing with Breaking Bad, I wrote that people commit murder and other violent crimes upon people they love all the time. Now I tend to agree... murdering or maiming someone disqualifies the feeling you had for them as "love".

...This case is divided by two ideas.
1. He shot an unknown intruder armed with a Glock pistol in his bathroom.
2. He deliberately killed Reeva with his Glock pistol...

You never get past this. This is NOT what the case -- the case tried in a South African court -- is about. It's about Pistorius killing someone by using deadly force in a situation where he did not have the legal right to do that.

The "gorgeous blonde specimen" had the law on her side. She should have been able to use or retreat to the bathroom without being murdered. This is what Samson cannot seem to grasp. There's two people here. Oscar and the "gorgeous blonde specimen." They both have rights under the law. The "gorgeous blonde specimen" had the right to use a bathroom without being murdered. Oscar did not have the legal right to fire four shots through a closed door without knowing who was in the bathroom or why, he was required by law to have had a reasonable belief that he needed to use deadly force to protect himself. He doesn't have the legal right to use lethal force just in case. No one does. He did that anyway and he wound up killing an entirely innocent person. Now he has to answer for that under the law.

It's that simple. In my mind there's no controversy. Oscar screwed up. Oscar's going to prison. End-of-story.

Samson, you do at least understand that this is a different type of case than some we discuss. Many or even most the main argument is that the defendant was not even there or it was an accident. Here there is no doubt that the bullets from his gun killed Reeva.

For Pete's sake, Oscar is not a victim, he's a liar and a manipulator. Have you watched the video of the leaked reenactment and compared it to his demonstration in the courtroom? In the first he nimbly trots forwards and backwards, holding a gun steadily in his hand. In the courtroom he hobbles slowly up and down the aisles, holding onto the side railing.

In the sentencing hearing we found that Oscar lied yet again. His psychologist, Professor Scholtz, related in his pre-sentencing report that Oscar told him he had witnessed the rape and suicide of an inmate. A prison matron testified that the incident occurred too far away for Oscar to see or hear anything. Furthermore Oscar claimed to Scholtz that he had gotten an infection because there was no chair in his shower for the first five weeks. However, there was no evidence presented (ie. diagnosis or treatment) to support the claim. Scholtz failed miserably in the cross-examination. Even fangirl Masipa rejected the testimony.

Oscar will say and do whatever he thinks will get him out of taking responsibility for his actions.
