Though the new candidate's name is basically identical to the one 2012 Republican flavor-of-the-month wannabe. Not a happy callback.

So, a net wash.

Safe pick, but not inspiring. But what's the alternative, Pence? Bernie apparently shot his wad with the DNC platform. He wanted Elizabeth Warren. So did I. Won't make me not vote for Clinton, but not enthused. Lesser of two evils again.

He's a solid progressive.

Jeff Flake is a decent guy (for a Republican). He didn't go to Trump's hate festival, has refused to support him, and has called out the insane Republicans demanding that Hillary be locked up.

ETA: He didn't sign that crazy letter to Iran attempting to undermine negotiations.

I forgot the VP presides over the Senate. But that means little.

Of course it will. The VP usually acts in two capacities.

1. Unofficial White House Congressional liason
2. Acts as a dignitary

Usually he is CCd on all NS info and gets most of the Security briefings so he is up to speed and can step in if needed.

How much a force he is and responsibilities given to him varies widely between administrations. Ike famously hated Nixon and Nixon's power and council was fairly non-existent. LBJ also was on the outs in Camelot. Cheney was very powerful in the W's first term and then became ostracized.

It could mean everything and nothing.

Kaine from a campaign perspective is probably the best selection going away. We know that Trump is going to get trounced with African American voters. Kaine locking down Virginia for Hillary would be huge. He's white and a Christian which means he shouldn't be seen as a threat to middle America. And my guess is the Clinton campaign will have him all over Spanish language media. He's going to be camped out in Florida trying to lock it down and if Kaine can deliver Florida along with Virginia, that is the ball game.

So some people are mad that Tim Kaine doesn't like abortion. Well, he's a Catholic and doesn't like it for those reasons. But he doesn't believe that the government should ban it and has a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood as Stacko pointed out.

Assuming the states that are highly favored to go Hillary or Donald go that way, Hillary has a very large advantage.

Locking up Virginia would greatly decrease Donald's paths to victory.

And if she gets either Florida or Pennsylvania, she wins. If she gets Ohio, Donald would need all the rest of them to win.
