Bullish on Bernie: The Bernie Sanders 2016 Thread II

Lots of Bernie Bros are probably going to turn on Bernie himself if he concedes and endorses Hillary.

Some of them might vote Green or even Libertarian. The hypocrites who choose to vote for Trump never really understood Bernie Sanders' messages and platform, or were only interested in Sanders because it was considered cool.

Disaffected Bernie supporters who switch to Trump are like "traditional" Labour supporters here in the UK who are unhappy with "New" Labour not being sufficiently left-wing and supporting of the workers switching to UKIP. it doesn't seem to make much sense but plenty are doing it.

In the recent Welsh Assembly poll in South East Wales the Labour share was significantly down and the UKIP share well up. Of course this could have been a case of everyone shifting one party to the right but from what I've heard a lot of it was straight defection Labour --> UKIP because of "immigration" (the only immigrants in any number in this part of Wales are English) and because of some ill-formed notion that UKIP (a right wing party led by an ex-commodities trader) will somehow protect workers' rights. :boggled::boggled:

According to the Bloomberg poll, something like 20% of Sanders supporters are going to vote for Trump.

That one has thrown me for a loop with a few people I've seen. "Yay Bernie Sanders! He's the best! Oh he lost? Well I'm gonna vote for Trump then!"

HUH?

Clearly people like that are more interested in being anti-establishment than they are of the actual policies of the people running.

We're still in the Bernie Won't Quit on Us phase. There's no way that that many Sanders supporters will support the orange fungus. Once the dust has settled a bit more, the actual progressives will come around, the proviso being that the RNC isn't able to muzzle Trump.

Oh I don't disagree. I've just seen some Sanders supporters express the sentiment.

Right now I think Sanders is just trying to squeeze every last bit of influence he can get out of all of this. His problem, however, is that his potential returns are quickly diminishing. It appears that the more Trump talks, the higher his negatives go, and the less the need for Sanders to rally his supporters to back Clinton - they'll do it without him. And the Orlando shooting has made him an afterthought right now, so he's going to have a tough time using the media to his advantage.

Fully concur - see my post 2679 in this thread.

You misspelled "attention".

No, I think he really is trying to get as much influence over the party platform as he can get. I just think he missed his chance to get the most bang for his buck, but hasn't quite realized that yet.
Still it has an air of not wanting to pass the baton to the winner.

We'll see come the convention. He spent an inordinate amount of time blaming the superdelegates when he lost because of the popular vote, the superdelegates didn't change the outcome of the election. He's complained the DNC rigged the game but the debate schedule was changed and his being locked out of the DNC files which was caused by his own staff only lasted one day. And he did better in the caucuses and worse in closed primaries so that's a wash.

If all he bitches about in the convention are Wasserman Schultz, the superdelegsates, and the closed primaries, I'd say it was all about him.

If he thinks the nation needs $15/minimum wage, I don't think that's realistic given the range of cost of living across the country.

His real goal, getting money out of politics, if he spends his political capital on that goal, I will have more respect for him.

Bernie is going to address his supporters in a live stream speech in about an hour.

He is not expected to concede/drop out.
