Not Barry Goldwater who saw moderation as no virtue, and extremism as no vice.
That was extremism in defense of liberty. Not just any old kind of extremism.

To answer the OP title,... I think people already miss him. His approval ratings went up when the primary campaigns started heating up. I attribute it to people looking at the cavalcade of candidates and saying, "Ya know, Obam's not that bad when you put it in context."
Amazing. Out damn facts, out. Another great example where reality has a liberal bias which is denied.
You guys really should stop quoting a joke from Colbert as if it's a serious fact.
You should really stop stressing over the topic. Really.
It actually is a serious fact.
-Gays are born that way
-Climate Change is human-driven
-Income inequality leads to lower quality of life for all participants in an economy.
-Humans are deeply biased and women and minorities are discriminated against requiring anti-biasing.
-Businesses do not act ethically in a free-market system
-Free healthcare makes the economy stronger and saves the government money.
Etc etc... these are facts...
When we are talking about the American conservative establishment, this is just reality. They are mostly factually wrong.
Yes, correcting misconceptions and falsehoods sure has nothing to do with the purpose of this forum. My bad.

You're not correcting anything. You're arguing your personal take on a topic under the guise of skepticism. It was explained to you by several people why the "joke" is a little more serious than a joke.
All the more reason to correct it if it becomes a statement of fact. Reality has no political bias at all. Me being a liberal doesn't change that.
OMG. No one is saying that reality actually has political biases. The point being made is that conservatives don't like reality.
respected? no. feared? yes.
I am late to respond, but I've been meaning to, and still think it is needed:
The reason, of course, that Putin is "feared" around the world is specifically because he is NOT respected. He is a loose cannon who cannot be trusted.
That surely does strike fear into others around the world, but is that really what we would want in a leader?
GWB fans apparently would say yes. I don't agree.
It's amazing that the phrase switches to being a joke, to being serious, to being a metaphor with each post.
