Hell yes they are. Mindblowingly - I can't even think of a word that is strong enough to describe their utter stupidity.

He may think she will help him in the general, but he isn't going to win the primary with her - too late anyways. She won't help him in the primaries with conservatives at all, in my opinion.

So our two choices for our country in the general are going to be firing squad or lethal injection.

If Ted Cruz wanted to choose a Californian Republican businesswoman, Meg Whitman would probably have been a better choice. Whitman hasn't been ousted from HP. Yet.

Nate Silver is unimpressed. He remains unconvinced that any VP really influences the vote one way or another. This is more about controlling the news cycle - keeping Trump's turn towards "respectability" below the fold. In that manner, it appears to have worked. Trump's foreign policy speech is getting far less coverage than it would have otherwise.

I personally don't understand choosing a person who has failed so badly at so many things. But she's a businessperson who can talk about how to run a business with employees and profits and whatever so Trump can't claim that as his own personal niche anymore.

If you were rooting for something enigmatic to happen that doesn't make the outcome of the Republican race any clearer in any way, score yourself 10 points.
 
When was the last time someone who was mathematically eliminated from winning the nomination on the first ballot chose a running mate?

Yep. At the contested '76 convention, Reagan announced that Senator Richard Schweiker would be his running mate. Schweiker, as you may recall, was such a strong and engaging personality that he is not remembered in any way at all.
