Bullish on Bernie: The Bernie Sanders 2016 Thread II

Sanders is giving his 'when we began blah blah blah...' speech. I wonder why he isn't waiting for the results. His position seems to be look how great we did without admitting he still is losing. I suppose false hope fires up the donations.

Oh wait, I see, he's campaigning in W Virginia. He's high on the one poll there, the vote is May 10th, 37 delegates. He's blaming closed primaries, ignoring the fact caucuses are not historically a representative vote. He also claims 3 million people couldn't vote in NY without noting not all of them would have voted anyway.

And he keeps ignoring he has yet to be attacked when he cites how well he polls against Trump.

Bernie is on CNN now - "We've won the independent votes and even the Republican vote...". Gee, that's great and all, but weren't you supposed to win the Democratic vote? And then, "3 million people in NY weren't allowed to vote". Sure they were. All they had to do was register as a Dem, if you wanted them to vote for you. Surely someone must have explained this to you when you entered the race?

And far from attacking him trump sent a sympathetic tweet suggesting that Bernie should run as an independent because of the terrible way the Democratic Party has treated him.

Mister Sanders might want to consider why those Republicans turned out to vote for him. Or does he actually think his stirring speeches have swayed them to 'feel the Bern'?

The issue is that registered voters had their registrations changed by party's unknown

New Yorkers File Emergency Lawsuit To Give Voting Rights Back To 3.2 Million People

...More than 3 million people — about 27 percent of New York voters — were registered outside the Republican and Democratic parties as of April, and are therefore ineligible to vote on Tuesday. A significant number of voters, including many named in the lawsuit, say their party affiliation was switched without their knowledge.

Westchester County voter Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to check on the status of her voter registration last month, after hearing about problems in Arizona’s primary. She was dismayed to discover that, despite being a registered Democrat since 2008, her party affiliation had been changed to unaffiliated...

Ocasio-Cortez was later told by her local Board of Elections that her party affiliation was changed during Hurricane Sandy. The devastating storm hit right before Election Day 2012, and in an emergency measure, Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) allowed New York residents to vote at any precinct via affidavit ballot. Ocasio-Cortez was stuck in New York City for the storm, so she voted there instead of in Westchester.

“Apparently when I signed that affidavit my party affiliation was waived,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “I had no idea I was losing my party status when I did that… Had I known this was the case I would have fixed this ages ago.”

The Story of the Great Brooklyn Voter Purge Keeps Getting Weirder
Some 120,000 people couldn't vote. What happened? - http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/04/new-york-primary-voter-purge
...On the day of the primary, New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, a Clinton supporter, said he'd heard reports of the "purging of entire buildings and blocks of voters from the voting lists." He said, "The perception that numerous voters may have been disenfranchised undermines the integrity of the entire electoral process."...

According to the Daily News, Haslett-Rudiano skipped a step in the process of purging people from the list, which led to some people being improperly removed. Many voters reported being registered as Democrats, only to find that their affiliation had been changed from Democrat to unaffiliated. That meant they couldn't vote in New York's closed primary election, which requires an official registration with one of the major parties...

Election Justice USA, a national organization formed after the botched Arizona elections on March 22, tried to help voters whose affiliations had been switched without their knowledge by filing a lawsuit to make the primaries open to any registered voter. A judge dismissed that request on Tuesday, but the group hasn't given up. Shyla Nelson, a co-founder of the organization, said there is an ongoing lawsuit seeking a review of all the provisional ballots submitted by voters who reported being removed from the rolls against their will. The group is also seeking to have provisional ballots (sometimes referred to as "affidavit ballots" in New York) counted before the state certifies its primary results on May 5...

The evidence indicates that the main problem wasn't registering six months ago (though that seems ridiculous as well), it was having their registrations changed or being purged entirely from the voter roles in both Arizona and New York. I've no intention of arguing this issue, but hopefully all of these issues are cleared up before November.

Are you suggesting that the Koch Brother's endorsement of Hillary means that he sees a market advantage to a Hillary administration?

It's funny that the Clinton camp isn't endlessly whining about this.

If that is the issue, then he should stop whinging about the 3.2 million independents who weren't allowed to vote in a closed primary. derp.

I thought the problem was that he lost by > 250,000 votes.

Oh Berntards, it's not looking good tonight. But don't worry, if Bernie takes Guam and 98% of the California votes, he can still get back in this thing! Remember to send more money!

Quite possibly, in exactly the same way Republicans would hope to benefit from having Sanders as the Democratic nominee. It's odd that you trumpet being a progressive but don't seem to have a problem with your favoured candidate drawing support from those on the opposite end of the spectrum but I guess principles go out the window when you're as desperate for votes as Sanders is.

Well you can't argue it since there's not a shred of evidence of anything nefarious happening but hey whatever makes you feel better about the fact that Sanders couldn't get Democratic voters(as opposed to Independents or Republicans) to vote for him.

I no longer have a dog in this fight, as for people who believe differently than I do supporting and voting for a candidate I once supported, why does it matter what their reasons for voting the way they did? Would it matter to you if you found out that a lot of progressives voted against their own interests and for Hillary?

A lot of ongoing investigations and some early firings of election officials seem to indicate that there were some rather serious and obvious problems regarding the changing of registrations and the purging of voter rolls, I'm more concerned about correcting the problems and eliminating the potential for the same problems in November and beyond. The rest of your rant is all you.

In Brooklyn? got reference?

Frankly it wouldn't matter if Sanders got beat by 2 million votes, wiping 125,000+ people from the voter rolls and switching the registrations of many times that amount is a disgrace, and should be corrected.

Are there still people here that are delusional enough to think that Bernie can win the nomination without some crazy event like Hillary dying (I think that is more likely than her being indicted)?

Hillary cannot be trusted to nominate left leaning supreme court justices? What a joke. Look at at the four Supreme Court justices appointed by Democrats. Half by her husband and half by her former boss. All are liberals/progressives. And Hillary is to the left of both Bill and Barack!

I wonder how they knew to only purge the Bernbots?

Sure, if it happened wrongfully or illegally it should be corrected.

As it stands, that remains to be determined.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that. Just the ridiculous whinging and innuendo that Clinton and her Democratic party friends and cronies were somehow responsible for just purging potential Bernie voters.

To be fair it is not quite as insane as the insinuation that Hillary somehow got Republicans in the Arizona legislator/Maricopa county to rig the primary election to favor her.

I don't know that they (whoever you are referring to) did only purge or change the registrations of Sanders voters, have you got any evidence that this is what happened? Personally, I don't put much weight in the "nefarious activity" reports from the usual suspects like Breitbart -Brooklyn Election Official Scored Big Profit From Real Estate Deal with Hillary Clinton Supporters for obvious reasons,

While I have very little interest in who wins or doesn't win in this election, I do have an interest in the process and keeping it as open, fair and honest as possible.
