Cool! Happy St. Patrick's Day! I'm Presbyterian, but since I have nothing orange to wear, I just wore grey and black today. None of my co-workers would understand anyway. LOL.

I'm not surprised, at one point it was a very diverse and largely rational political party based upon a common respect and admiration for the centralized Republic form of governance and public policy enactment, though I must admit that is its traditional foundations and has not been its keynote hallmarks during my lifetime.

If the Green Party can get 5% of the vote, we'll be eligible for the FEC's Presidential Election Campaign Fund, which is several millions of dollars. We are building an alternative to challenge the hegemony of the two parties, and this is an important step.

I always say that a slim hope is better than none at all. At least the Greens will be able to give a home to many of those disenfranchised Sanders voters. I've heard so many people say "I could never vote for Hillary" or "I'm going to vote for Trump" or "I'm just going to write in Bernie Sanders". If you're going to do a protest vote, it's more constructive to give it to Stein than writing in Bernie Sanders or voting for Donald Trump. When I was younger, I was one of those anarchist kids who didn't vote because they thought it was a waste of time. It was third-party politics that got me interested in voting. So, third parties attract people who otherwise wouldn't vote.

What's more, we have the infrastructure of a real, honest-to-Pete political party, so hopefully when people get fed up with the two-party system, they turn to us instead of some authoritarian crackpot like Trump.

Trouble is, they need to become more realistic in order to compete, and instead they're just going further and further off the deep end. If they're beyond the point at which another party might steal their ideas, they are too far afield. The main parties steal each other's ideas all the time. We just don't notice it because all the noise is elsewhere.

That's not a bug, it's a feature. The Green Party is for people who aren't interested in the Democrat's "realism" (which just amounts to selling out your values). It's for people who stand on principles.

For example, I will not vote for a warmonger. That may be "unrealistic" in today's politics, but so what? My vote is mine, I can do whatever I want with it. I just don't understand people who are too cowardly to vote from their heart. It's not like your vote is public knowledge. You could even lie and tell people you voted for the Democrat.

I wasn't really talking about "warmongering." I'm right with you on the neutrality and reductions in military spending. It is the traditional foreign policy position of this country prior to WWII, after all (well, other than trying to expand locally). The problem is more along the lines that her economic plan is ridiculous.

I'd rather support a known factor, so I understand what to expect; than a hate-mongering, xenophobic, crypto-fascist (I really hate this term, but unfortunately it's highly appropriate here) who has repeatedly bankrupted his personal business ventures, has never held anything resembling political office, shows nothing even remotely resembling an understanding of either domestic or international politics, and has run one of the most vicious and divisive election campaigns in living memory. The Donald is a hateful bigot who is utterly unsuited to running a neighborhood association, let alone one of the most powerful and influential nations on the planet. Hillary, at least, has some ability to form working coalitions and manage affairs of state in a survivable manner. She won't do much good for the US, but she will not wreak the kind of harm that is inevitable under Trump, unless he has an overwhelming majority of progressives in both houses of Congress to oppose him.

Unfortunately, if it does come down to Trump vs. Clinton, Trump's pseudo-populism is going to be a lot stronger and more effective than her establishment machine politics; and we're more likely to get stuck with Trump.

There will not be an overwhelming majority of progressives in congress,so you are saying we should just sit back and get ready for a form of Fascism in America?
