Presidential Primaries 2016

Clinton picked up 9 more delegates and Sanders 2 today in Marianas
Five superdelegates on the tiny North Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean decided Saturday to put their support behind Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. Until Saturday only one of the super delegates has supported Clinton, with the rest undecided.

Superdelegates are party officials who can back any candidate they wish.

The small group of islands, not far from Guam, awarded four delegates to Clinton and two to Sen. Bernie Sanders in caucus results Saturday.

I put this in the Rubio thread but I probably should have put it here.

Rubio takes DC, edging out Kasich as the new Trump-the-loser starts to unfold and the GOP voting public tries to find new legs.

Marco RUBIO
1,059 -- 37.3%

John KASICH
1,009 -- 35.5%

Donald TRUMP
391 -- 13.8%

Ted CRUZ
351 -- 12.4%

OTHER
29 -- 1.0%

For the Dems I suspect it might be someone like Obama in 08; that is someone who hasn't entered the public consciousness yet. For the Republicans don't bet against Jeb Bush. After eight years they may be looking at GW through a rose tinted spectacles and hoping for the magic of name recognition.

Found my post from 2012 and I was half right, no one saw Bernie Sanders coming but as for the Republicans...Well did anyone really expect them to embrace total raving lunacy as a campaign strategy?

No but in hindsight I can see how their constant drumbeat about how bad Obama is and how bad government is and how badly the country is doing resulted in this effect.

True, problem is that back when Trump was announcing his bid no one took it seriously. I think this post by Puppycow from March 2015 sums up the general opinion:

Well, if anyone is foolish enough to donate money to Donald Trump's exploratory committee he could legally use it to defray the costs of his tooling around to places like New Hampshire and Iowa (not that he needs it).

He probably took this step because the press wasn't falling for his game this time around so he had to take it to the next level, which he can afford to.

Now, the official purpose of an exploratory committee is to determine the feasibility of a run for office. I wonder if anyone on this committee would have the guts to tell Trump the truth about the feasibility of his candidacy? I mean, all they have to do is look at that Wall Street Journal poll and tell him what it says. But what fun would that be? And more importantly, how would telling him the truth help put money in this individual's pocket? I'd tell him that America is ready and waiting for his candidacy and the presidency is his for the asking. :D

It was funny at the time...

I had him burning out by last December. I think the GOP is only now starting to stoke that fire and it may be too late. Can't say it enough, be careful what you wish for.

Yeah, the Republican leadership have spent pretty much every day since Obama entered the Whitehouse essentially breaking the system, and then denouncing how broken it is. They are now surprised that no one believes them when they promise to fix the system and the party turns to fringe lunatic like Trump.
