Whoah, it looks like Maynard James Keenan (of Tool, A Perfect Circle, and in this instance Puscifer) has been reading Pharyngula! He wrote a song that certainly sounds like the Horde's internet tough-guy schtick in "The Remedy"

NSFW for swearing:

ETA: The lyrics, for those who don't wish to watch the video:
Our home, our rules, respect them or
Bitches receive stitches
Trolls receive 86's

Stick around if you're housebroken
Can't hold your ****, hold your tongue, you got to go
Should you choose to react like an imbecile
You'll in turn be treated so

Yes, we're being condescending
Yes, that means were talking down to you
With all that racket from your lips a-flapping
We assumed you didn't notice

Haters, isolators, no one misses these
Bitches receive stitches
Trolls receive 86's

Yes, we're being condescending
Yes, that means were talking down to you
With all that racket from your lips a-flapping
We assumed you didn't notice

Haters, isolators, no one misses these
Bitches receive stitches
Trolls receive 86's

You speak like someone who has never been
Smacked in the *********** mouth
That's OK, we have the remedy
You speak like someone who has never been
Knocked the **** on out
But we have your remedy

You speak like someone who has never been
Smacked in the *********** mouth
That's OK, we have the remedy
You speak like someone who has never been
Knocked the **** on out
But we have your remedy

And following the links from the comments on that post, there are yet more people demonstrating their complete cluelessness. When you have radical feminists allying with radical Islamists and homophobes, against atheist former Muslims with valid feminist criticisms of Islam, "unclear on the concept" doesn't even begin to cover it.

There is a serious myopic blind spot, I can't even call it hypocrisy anymore since that assumes some sort of self-awareness, among the increasingly accurately-named "regressive left". When they find themselves supporting reprehensible people, not for their right to speak, but for their attempts to silence the speech of others, you've reached a point where the far left is indistinguishable from the far right. I need to repeat that, it's so bizarre. Self-described feminists are supporting the attempts of anti-feminist, anti-homosexual, anti-atheist Islamists to silence valid criticisms of Islam by secular feminists and their allies, by claiming said criticism is "Islamophobia".

It reminds me of the anti-porn movement in the late-'70s and early-'80s, where the radical feminist crowd was effectively in lockstep with the religious-right Republicans on the subject, which neither side seemed willing to acknowledge.

It just reminds me of Charles Babbages' comment to a truly bizarre question about his mechanical computer: "I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question." Likewise, I cannot imagine the kind of confusion of ideas that could result in one group being so supportive of another whose beliefs, and more importantly actions, are so fundamentally antithetical to their own. It's one thing to support a natural opponent's right to respond to criticism, another to support their attempt to try and intimidate critics into silence.

The SJW fringe is about the most irrational and confusing mindset I can possibly imagine. At least the irrational religious have the excuse of an established set of doctrines they have been taught and accepted unquestioningly. The SJW mindset seems to constantly mutate and shift, with no real solid structure to build any sort of belief system on.

I have had this thought before when thinking about National socialism, and the political platforms of nationalist populist movements popping up in Europe nowadays. They have a lot of very left wing points. This leads me to the conclusion that either "right wing" is not the right way to describe these parties, or the political spectrum is more of a gamut, where you come around full circle, in stead of moving off the edges.

The problem is in thinking of politics/ideology as uni-dimensional, I think. It's not a straight line or a circle. Most ideologies can be treated either dogmatically or non-dogmatically. And there's no reason an ideology can't be a mix of ideas typically considered "very left" with other ideas that are typically considered "very right".

As for Islamists and certain leftists agreeing on censorship- two very different belief systems will, at times, reach the same conclusion for entirely different reasons. Anti-colonialist and/or anti-racist ideas on the one hand and Islamist/theocratic ideas on the other. This doesn't mean that the former is somehow on the same spot in some left/right political axis. And it certainly doesn't make them "indistinguishable".

The problem is that you've got a supposedly anti-colonialist, anti-patriarchy, pro-women's-rights, anti-oppression group championing the actions of a pro-colonialist, pro-patriarchy, anti-women's-rights, oppressive theocratic group in their attempt to silence criticism of their religion from a different anti-colonialist, anti-patriarchy, pro-women's-rights, anti-oppression group.

It's getting to the point where if you can somehow claim to be oppressed with a straight face, it doesn't matter how utterly reprehensible you are, or whether or not you really are oppressed in any meaningful way, radical SJWs will champion your cause. You can mutilate children, enslave women, routinely exploit and oppress immigrants, ethnically cleanse minority populations, murder critics, homosexuals, and rape victims; but as long as you're not White, Christian, or Jewish, they'll be right with you to help shout down, intimidate, and ban anyone who dares to say there's anything wrong with what you're doing.

Of course the really funny part about this whole NECSS/Dawkins debacle is just who NECESS is putting their concern behind....Chanty Binx aka Big Red

Someone who built her reputation on harassing people and telling them to SHUT THE **** UP !!!!

From Novella's blog

The point, rather, is that this video, and the discussion that surrounded it, was not constructive. It was hateful and divisive. Further (as Dawkins later acknowledged) the video targeted a woman who is allegedly already the target of threats and harassment.

So Binx or Dawkins...I know who I'm throwing my support behind

I wonder how appreciative the NECESS would be of someone showing up in Big Red drag and standing outside their conference haranguing their attendees as they came and went.

HEY SECULARISTS....SHUT THE **** UP !!!! JUST SHUT THE **** UP !!!!

If the NECESS is going to go full warrior, then they better take a look at their speakers line up. I'm seeing an awful lot of settler colonial faces in there

Have you seen the video?

Hemant Mehta on the NECSS boot

He's right , we don't know who said what or who complained. For all we know it could have been Islamists complaining about being compared to feminists.

That is not entirely true. We do know who complained, and why they did.

I have no idea whose account that is, and it's truly Poe's Law in action, because I honestly can't tell if it's a subtle parody or not. In any case, one of the retweets leads to this which claims that Bruce Timm, the series producer of the Green Lantern animated series, admitted in an interview that that series had been cancelled because girls liked it.

The only time I can find him quoted directly giving a reason for the cancellation is in articles like this one:

I asked if it really came down to the lack of merchandising sales, as Bleeding Cool had previously reported regarding Young Justice. He said yes. Since the Ryan Reynolds’ film, retailers were stuck with film merchandise that just wasn’t selling. This lead to those retailers being very reluctant, if not downright refusing, to carry any merchandise from the Animated Series. Therefore, a lack of sales on that front lead to a lack revenue for an admittedly expensive CG Series.

The only thing that mentions gender with regard to the series is this, which notes that girls and boys seemed to like different aspects of the show in early focus group test screenings, but that they ignored the focus groups anyway because the moderators are biased and just try to get whatever answers they want.

Which is not quite the narrative that's presented in that rant.

As for Teen Titans, as far as I can make out from the various things written online, the Cartoon Network wanted to air fewer things made by other companies and more things made by themselves, and the programme's ratings were falling. While I'm not saying that sexism doesn't exist in the entertainment industry, it does seem a leap to concoct a conspiracy theory where "DC's animation department" will kill any superhero show that they think girls are watching.

If I've learned anything from this most recent round of Dawkbro-bashing, it's that cartoons are super serious business.

That looks like a bog standard SJW twitter account.

I take it your vote goes to the conference responding to a twitter mob.

I'd be curious as to how many members of the mod had even heard of the NECESS before this, let alone how many of them had even considered going to it in the first place.

Not sure I'd call it a mob, I can see only three socjus tweeters who complained prior to the deplatforming going through.

This sounds hilarious to me, but maybe I'm too biased because I think big red makes for the perfect caricature of "regressives/radical feminists".

I also like that seemingly no one gives a damn that Dawah man was also referenced in the video to the same extent... except, as far as I can tell he's not nearly as big and obvious of a meme so his reference imo is worse if anything.
