Continued: (Ed) Atheism Plus/Free Thought Blogs (FTB)

That would be interesting to see. They'll be too busy attacking each other over minor points of doctrine to actually bother with real-world injustices (not that they've done much about those to date).

They seem rather friendly toward each other now but once the divorce is finalized, watching them turn on each other should be entertaining.

One question that only time will be able to answer is....Will The Orbit adopt the same dehumanizing and degrading tabloid advertising strategy that FtBlogs continues to use ?

I'm running adblock so FtB ads don't show up but every time I see an archive link to that place, my response is something I can't say here.

My response is typically turgidity.

Is that an obscure euphemism?
Not in the least. I build catapults to hurl pumpkins in the fall. She's come to a couple of events and pulled the trigger.

That's why I ponied up for ad-free FTB.

It was but if it was a dude getting it on by tieing up a fembot, then there's be all sorts of interesting analyses in the comment section.

Undoubtedly.

Bit of casual misandry in that story:

...their primary clientele are men, and men are equally uncomplicated machines: Present them with desired visual traits, speak lamentations about their bruised egos, provide stimulation for a few minutes, and then clean up the mess.

I'll let it pass, though, because lesbian robots.

“Is Feminism Evil? What Feminism Really Is & Why Movement Atheism Needs More of It”

The internet has spread a mythology of sexism and misogyny that is now predominantly embraced by atheists, impeding understanding, and progress towards women’s equality. Like racism in the South, anti-feminism is now spread not always explicitly, but often through code words, fake concerns, and subtle bigotry. And its effects are being felt within movement atheism.

Feminism is about understanding and fighting this, and finishing what the Enlightenment started. Resistance to this is not rational, as we can see by the illogical and ill informed ways atheists attempt to claim they do not harbor outmoded sexist ideas, and thus end up perpetuating the very sexism they claim doesn’t exist. Personal stories, documented facts, and published science verify all of the ways women are still being treated unequally, and what to do about it.

So, it seems that atheists have predominantly embraced misogyny, impeding understanding and progress towards women’s equality. And if you're an atheist and you deny that atheism "harbours outmoded sexist ideas", then you are perpetuating sexism! Only the Enlightened Atheists confirm that they are sexists, to paraphrase 'Life of Brian'. (Makes me glad I'm a theist!)

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that "will be on speaking on the subject of feminism, and why the atheism movement needs more of it"
has been majorly pushed as an idea for the last half a decade (at least) and that it has lead directly to a split in the community? Even those who know or care nothing about the whole elevatorgate or similar events know that "feminism" is code for "patriarchy" which leads to "women need special treatment, and if you disagree you're a misogynist".

Well, at least that's what all the popular atheist feminists seem to suggest. Rape culture, too.

Is it any wonder that there is an anti-feminist backlash? Especially in a community that has large overlap with the skeptic community?

I wonder what Carrier counts as code words and fake concerns. I'm guessing "free speech" is bound to make an appearance.

Misandry would be one because "everyone" knows misandry ain't real.

Anything to do with emotion or anger.

Any gendered insult.

Possibly, the word girls and the phrase "not all men"

Hypersensitive, creating drama, emotional etc.

"Fake" concerns would include ideas like being falsely accused of rape/sexual assault, because that never happens.

And now for some thoughts on the "One Penis Policy" adopted by some of the stodgier among us.

Heh.

I've been polyamourous most of my life, and spent some time in the local poly community (before they got fundamentally annoying with all the drama). I remember these debates. As a rule, the "One Penis Policy" was a pretty good indicator of an unequal and often toxic relationship. At best, it demonstrated profound insecurity that was never sufficiently addressed. Such relationships rarely lasted long, and if they did, were often emotionally-abusive as well.

When it comes to SJW-style "feminism", aren't men supposed to shut up and listen?

Profound, indeed. One might well suppose that male fear of cuckoldry has roots that go even deeper than socialization.
