The number of bugs this thing has is horrendous. But what gets most on my nerves is the moronic changes to the user interface. Latest example: Immediately synchronize time with internet server. Windows XP: 4 clicks. Windows 7: 5 clicks. Windows 10: 7 clicks.

Meanwhile, Edge proves they have learned nothing at MS about how exactly they lost the browser war. While Firefox and Chrome keep making browsers that work beautifully even in XP, in MS they introduce a new browser every couple of releases that can't run in previous operating systems. And for no good reason at all. Why would someone who uses both 7 & 10 choose to work on two different browsers when using just Chrome or just Firefox would serve him perfectly well ? Who is the moron who decided that Edge should be exclusive to 10 ? I guess it's the same moron who decided that IE9 shouldn't be available on XP.

So far so good for me, except for one minor pain that I can’t seem to resolve: Everytime there’s an update, and my pc restarts, I lose connectivity with my network (yellow triangle on top of the network icon). The only way I can resolve this is by first shutting down my pc, then rebooting my modem/router, waiting, then turning pc back on.

This happens to me as well. I've never had to restart the modem. I right click on the network connecting icon and click "trouble shoot problem". Windows resets the network adapter and problem solved.

It never worked whenever i tried it :(

Really?

Does the automatic sync not work?

I does, but I often do manual sync for some time-critical applications. ALso, the path that you have to follow to get to this, is really ridiculous: To get to "Update now" you have to go through Adjust date/time -> Additional date/time & regional settings -> Set the time & date -> Internet Time -> Change settings. That's a fine example of a moronic UI.

It would be if it was something lots of people wanted to do all the time. I suspect that most users haven't ever even thought of wanting to do it, much less needed to with any regularity.

Everything can't be on top. That's just a simple fact.

Now that you know where it is how long does it actually take you to do it?

Could you set up a macro if it is incredibly burdensome?

As I said, it was 4 clicks away in Windows XP and 5 in Windows 7. There is absolutely no reason for it to be buried deeper. "Internet Time" should be directly under "Adjust date/time". And the progression to go there, is completely illogical and stupid. How many identical sounding "settings" does one have to go through to get to it ?

And as I said, this was just the last example in a long list of UI stupidities. If I were to write down everything that was working ok in XP and & 7's ui and is now ****** up, it would be a very very long day.

BTW, did you know that if you deactivate UAC, you can still access Control Panel but you can't access Settings ? Find me one good reason for this.

Every day I learn something new about how stupid is the Windows 10 iu. Another thing that used to work flawlessly ever since Windows first appeared, is to add programs to the Start Menu. Without installation, in case you want to add a portable app. So I want to add a program to "All Apps". Not to the stupid "tile" area, mind you. You would imagine it would be straightforward. Here is a thread discussing it: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/10529-all-apps-start-menu-add-remove-items-windows-10-a.html

Only, like many people there, I find it simply doesn't work. No matter what I try, the program appears as a tile and for the life of me I can't make it show up in All Apps.

Another day, another moronic Windows 10 behavior.

I have ClassicShell installed.

Some of them, certainly. El Greco's problem is fixed by it, as is the complaint about the status bar in Explorer (file system, not IE).

Not surprisingly, things like how to force a update of the clock from Internet time servers are not, as it only affects the Start Menu and some features in Explorer.

That was true of the switch from XP to Win7 and I agree it seems to be true of Win7 to Win10.

2 clicks in XP became 4 in Win7 and 6 in Win10

The How To Geek has instructions that are different than the ones on that forum, perhaps they'll work for you.

El Greco, from the link above;

Although you could actually copy-paste .exe files directly into the Start Menu folders on Windows 7 and earlier and they’d appear in the Start menu, you can’t do this on Windows 10. if you place an .exe file directly into one of these folders, Windows will ignore it and not display it in the Start menu. Instead, you’ll need to place the .exe file elsewhere and then create a shortcut to it in one of these folders. Windows will only show shortcuts in the All Apps list.

Could that have anything to do with your problem getting programs to appear on the All Apps list?

Nope, I wish that were true. Maybe it's a mistake and he means "only in the Tiles" ?

Thanks, but as quadraginta said it's the same procedure. Basically all the procedures mention placing a shortcut in one of two folders (or in both of them), either on its own or within a folder. I've done all the combinations but nothing works.

I'm curious, does it work for any of you ? Or is it that my system is cursed or something ? :D

And yeah, ClassicShell looks like a good partial solution.

I've added programs to the All Apps menu using this method, via the howtoGeek link, though possibly if I recall they didn't always appear instantly but after a reboot.
What specific program are you trying to add to the menu?

I just went to:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

... and pasted a short cut from an APP that is not installed, and there it is in the " All apps " list..

Hard to imagine what El Greco's problem might be..

P.S.
I was also able to delete folders and shortcuts in the above location, but it took a reboot for them to disappear.
