ABP,

A bear was shaking your house so much you thought it was an earthquake?

Absolutely. This is a cabin, not a McMansion or apartment building. We get a lot of earthquakes here - look at all of them just in recent days:

http://earthquaketrack.com/us-ak-fairbanks/recent

I didn't say it was a magnitude 9 or something, lol. A little 3.1 earthquake will tremble the cabin and alarm us because a big one might be right behind it - my God one of them was just crazy, watching the vehicles bounce around the driveway and the interlocking logs on the cabin lift and move around like little lincoln logs. That one had a long series of shocks that broke a window and knocked a pile of logs over. Did I say this bear did that? lol. This is a simple misunderstanding because I live where earthquakes are extremely common. It is the most logical thing to assume if there isn't a military aircraft flying overhead. Those shake the cabin too, but you are going to hear it.

The front door is Five feet nine inches tall. If you are a big guy, you have to duck down to get in. We live in a cabin in the woods, not a McMansion in a city of the lower '48. Did I say the bear was ten feet tall? No, I didn't. I showed you a picture so you could see for yourself.

No big deal - just don't superimpose your ideas from living in cities of the lower '48 on those of us living in a cabin, rural Alaska. Where earthquakes are extremely common. I'm happy to explain - I just wouldn't think ahead about the need to tell anyone we get a lot of earthquakes, and that my door is five foot nine. I said what happened.

Sounds pretty dramatic. You waited until he was "over" the front door, then you opened it and shot him in the chest? Sounds like a bit of creative writing for dramatic purposes. You expect me to believe this bear was pushing on the wall above your door? Judging by the picture of his claw (more hidden drama), that doesn't look like a ten foot tall black bear.

I can't unroll these hides because they are salted, not tanned. So they're stiff but well preserved until I feel like tanning them. I would have to soak them to unroll them and we could look at the holes.

Where else do you suggest I shoot him though? Besides in the chest. His little toe? That's where I have shot every big game animal I have ever shot at. Why is this dramatic? For you maybe. Not for me. If you placed yourself in my shoes, it wouldn't be a big deal for you either.

I told it because I think its pretty funny. To us it was. If you had lived through watching this sneaky guy spying on us you would understand why the realization it was him was funny. He finally went for broke and tried to get in, lol.

He was pushing on the log above the door, yes. Not even six feet up, so who needs to exaggerate. That log over the door is the foundation for the floor I was sleeping on, right overhead.

front%20door_zpswme20gov.jpg

That punching bag is face height for our four year old, that's where you set the height for training on a timing bag. But see how the log over the door supports the beam for the floor I was sleeping on? My head was a couple feet from that junction so sure I felt it. I got a heavy bag to the left of this. You want to see the cabin shaking? My four year old can make the floor shake hitting the heavy bag. Like an earthquake, yeah you bet. You think a bear ten times his size can't?

Before this little incident we did not have the bar over the door. Look on the upper right where there is a little silver hardware bolt thingie. lol. That's why I installed the bar. We don't even have a doorknob. Life is very different compared to how you live.

See how there are no windows? So how can I shoot him except to open the door? It was obviously him, that sneaky little bastard - standing off just in the trees watching us go in and out of the cabin. Watching us pushing to get in. We do not turn a door knob. So he tried to mimick us. By pushing. Up high, not reaching down for a doorknob. I could tell which log he was shoving. So the best shot was to open the door and stick it right in his chest.

Look how I can provide a photo that explains the things you had doubts about as opposed to changing the story to explain them away, and providing no evidence.

I showed you the picture of the bear so that you could see exactly how big he was. I can't unroll it without doing some serious work on it. And it won't be a big one. A lot bigger than a man, sure. but I never said it was a big one so don't doubt things I have never said. Nor say I am being dramatic.

That one time, when ABP backed up his story?

ABP do they stamp the hide and give it back ? Alaska Game Dept that is

The only thing I question about the story, is if he turned the hide and skull over to the state after taking the picture.

Any bear killed in self-defense is the property of the State, and the hide and skull must be forfeited.

Nope. Not even for a grizzly, if you have tags.

This is just getting to be a derail, obviously. Where are the pictures to back up the stories of the gamers?

Rockinkt,

That is not how I remember our previous discussion but if it makes you leave me alone, then, yes you visiting the NWT once made you an expert on legends and you proved without a doubt that the Dene people couldn't have passed stories down through the generations.
[\Thread]

You have a poor memory or are being wilfully deceptive given what you wrote in the highlighted area.

This still does not explain your trolling ABP.

ABP,

Thanks for taking the time to explain things more clearly. It seems to make sense now. My apologies for being a bit of a prick.

Isn't that what you wanted everyone to believe?

This still does not explain your trolling ABP.

Your late to the party

If I keep talking to you I'm going to get in ****, besides, this derail has gone on long enough, nobody needs you trying to get your lame digs in.

ABP, when you shot the 3 charging Brown Bears, you had to take them in to the Game Department? Or did you just take in two of them, because you had a tag for one? Did they inspect them, seal them and give them back? Are you required to recover the meat of inland brown bears? I thought I read something that said the meat from most of the game units was required to be recovered.

We don't even have a picture of Jodie's Cougar Porch, No Lights' Good N Plenty, or ChrisBFPRKY's clear photo of the creature in the tree. Why is it that ABP can post pictures supporting his stories, but the Gamers can not? Is it a coincidence? Or is it just Ironic? Perhaps it is just proof that they are gaming. Someone who is not gaming, would simply post photos to support their story.

Nonsense. There are pictures of the NAWACers in camo looking sagely at a tape measure, wandering down a pipeline right of way while keeping a cautious eye out for icky ticks, walking up a dry creek bed or down a wilderness logging road, and pondering a sleepless night in a primitive cabin that doesn't have electricy or heat or anything!

Yes. This is what I'm talking about.

ABP tells a story about shooting bears, pounding on his door, he posts pictures of the door, pictures of the bears etc...

NAWAC tells a story about Giant Marauding Apes, hucking deadly projectiles at the cabin occupants, and posts pictures of the Hickory Nut Cracking Rock, a trailcam of a Black Bear, and photographs the documentation of a fallen tree.

This is exactly why I drew this picture

ABP,

Thanks for taking the time to explain things more clearly. It seems to make sense now. My apologies for being a bit of a prick.

Nakani has separated his position from that of Jodie and others with this statement.

What a troll! He posts photos of a cabin with little boots that suggest the presence of small children and a punching bag that kind of aligns with his allusion to being boxer at some point and and . . .

Anyway, good on ya for your response Nakani. I don't know that an apology was necessary. I didn't think you were being jerky, just a bit blindly hyper-skeptical about something that was pretty obvious to those who have interacted with ABP for a while now. I'm pretty confident that he really lives in the woods.

All I want to know is how often do you need to change that floating-bag in that Alaskan weather? The club I help run has a real problem in the Winter with all of the bags absorbing the cold and the moisture, especially the heavy-bags. We have to either tarp them during the night when it's really cold or rotate them with a duplicate bag bi-monthly. Of course, it'd help if there wasn't a constant draft throughout the place.

I can't get you a pic because of storm damage but when Wanda gets through dealing with that she'll dig through her digital photos and send me one showing the porch.

So do you want to see a photo of a log cabin or are you really just trying to prove that ABP lives in a log cabin? I'm not sure what you find dubious about his shooting a bear on the porch story. I've never posted a photo of my face with a studied bird in the background; how do you know I'm an ornithologist?

In ABP we have a guy who claims to have shot a bear in a post in which he shows us a couple of photos of a bear hide. That's far more corroboration of a claim than most of us ever post here. I don't see why you want to hold him to some higher standard.

Because we verified who you were when I was a moderator on the BFF. I know your name, where you work, and so I know you are genuine. I know who a lot of you are for the same reasons which is why it might appear like I have different standards for different people. I don't know ABP.

I don't think ABP would be stupid enough to open his front door right as the bear is pushing the wall right above the door frame and risk it falling in his house. I wanted to see how tall the door was since the pics didn't show a prefab log house and it might not be standard. I've also never seen a real log house that wasn't falling down and over a 150 years old. I was genuinely interested in what it looked like. And for what it's worth, Cosmic Yak, I do hand paint my own Christmas cards and had using ABP's log cabin as my study in mind if it was picturesque.

Too bad you weren't here for the ABP shooting three brown bears at one time story. You would have been extra shrill then i'll bet.

I hope i'm not going to have to redraw this one, and replace Jodie with Nakani.

I don't look like that and I have never said a bigfoot story like that was legitimate.

No hot Asian wife - but I shot a bear off my front porch that was trying to force the door. It wasn't late at night - nor was I sleeping. I was actually talking to my wife on the phone and literally told her I had to hang up because a bear was trying to break in.
This not a rare occurrence in areas that have lots of bears (the breaking in part).
Then - I did what most people that I know do in ranching areas - I dug a hole with the backhoe and buried the stupid critter without telling anybody.
I have no photos so you can either believe my story or not.

What you should believe is that Jodie has shown a pattern of stalking and trolling certain members on this forum and I cannot for the life of me understand why such a disruptive person with such little to add to any conversation is allowed to still be a member here.

If they pick at me, I pick back, that isn't stalking. Get your story straight.

As For Nakani - get a grip and understand that the life of someone living in bear territory is full of such incidents. I would be much more surprised if ABP stated he had no problem with bears. If he further stated: "If you leave them alone they will leave you alone" - then I would know he was very inexperienced around bears and most likely lying about his location and life.

I don't doubt ABP lives in Alaska, or that he does "jack of all trades" kinds of things to make a living there. I simply doubt that his expertise includes anything more than that. I could be wrong, but I'ld bet money that I'm not.

Because we verified who you were when I was a moderator on the BFF. I know your name, where you work, and so I know you are genuine.
Wait, so this is what you share to make the case that you're not being creepy-stalkery? Knowing full well how much I value my privacy, you abused your moderator's privilege for no reason other than to slake your curiosity. (At least I hope that was the reason.) You know the old adage about character being what you do when you know that no one is watching?

I know who a lot of you are for the same reasons which is why it might appear like I have different standards for different people. I don't know ABP.
How reassuring.

That said, you're also missing the point. If you're looking up who we are then you're not relying on the information we present right here. That's the standard - the one standard - that you should be applying to all of us.
