Presidential Primaries 2016

CNN actually ran a spot the other day with the tag line "Five will Enter. Only one will leave."

What, they're going to hand them all katanas and have them fight it out?

Uh, hel-LO, this is the United States!
Bowie knives, 1911s, or something American.

I take it that some have difficulty discerning the difference between watching a video and naively accepting its perspective and portrayals as objectively accurate reflections of reality. I see a contrived campaign performance, and nothing but masks and polling group positions that show clear distinctions from past actions and statements.

That's why Trump and Sanders are doing well, no one is looking at their competency for the job.

On CNN, there's now the semi permanent display of the countdown to the debate -- 5 days and counting. It's hard to get excited when they omit the hours, minutes, and seconds. I guess that doesn't kick in quite yet.
What's worse is constant coverage while the election is a year off.

Another whoosh for ya!
You think Trump is following polling groups? Do you even read the posts you reply to? Low info, indeed!:D:thumbsup:

Pro tip: The post you replied to was all about HRC!
You're welcome!

The GOP candidates have got to be getting worried if sharapnel from the Implosion in the GOP House might do them serious damage in November.

If by that you mean the worry that some teapartier becomes Speaker and really, really badly gums up the works, then I agree. A whole year of inaction, obstructionism and Benghazi-email-etc-gate could do serious damage to the unaligned voter from the GOP perspective.

The Hillary we know, instead of the Hillary we wish we had.

Clinton shifts views on trade deal, Keystone pipe
...The Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal is just the latest in a long line of issues that Clinton has shifted her views on in recent weeks, giving Democratic rivals like O'Malley, the former Maryland governor, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an opportunity to brand her as a flip-flopper on the eve of the first Democratic presidential debate.

Leading up to the Oct. 13 primetime encounter in Las Vegas, Clinton has announced her opposition to the Keystone XL pipeline, a project she said she was "inclined" to support back in 2010 as President Barack Obama's secretary of state. She touted her support for gay marriage during a weekend appearance before the Human Rights Campaign — yet she opposed same-sex marriage for more than two decades in public life.

And her opposition to the Asian trade deal, which was finalized last week, came nearly three years after she traveled to Australia as secretary of state and lauded the proposed pact as the "gold standard" of trade deals. Video clips of Clinton talking about the trade deal are stored on YouTube, giving her opponents made-for-TV footage that could be used in television ads to highlight her shifting positions.

"Whether it is the Keystone pipeline, whether it is TPP, these are issues that I have had a very strong opinion on from Day One," Sanders told reporters. "I am delighted that Secretary Clinton is on board in opposition to the TPP. ... It would have been more helpful to have her on board a few months ago." ...

The gift that keeps on giving.

‘Clinton’s TPP opposition about politics’

...“As of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it”, Clinton said in an interview with the Public Broadcasting Service.

This follows Clinton’s similar reversal on the Keystone XL pipeline and on gay marriage. Why else set up the cesspool of conflicts of interest, take money from hedge funds and despotic regimes, fail to abide by her disclosure agreement with the administration and accept speaking engagements with the bogeymen of the left up to the moment she announced?

Clinton’s support for trade deals has seemed to fluctuate with the political calendar. Others cited the need to court labour-union donations. With opposition to the trade deal gaining steam among the far-left of the Democrat party, as well as with conservatives, Clinton’s move is widely seen as an effort to block a surging Sanders.

As a critical month for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign unfolds, the former president is becoming a more visible presence on television and on the fundraising circuit. Her once overwhelming lead in the Democratic presidential primary has narrowed...

I remember being so upset that Obama's campaign was playing "99 Problems" after his rallies, ...now it doesn't bother me so much.

Yeah, let's see, an employee does her job, works with her boss and doesn't find the issue worth walking out and quitting over.

Now self employed, she can have more independent positions.

Or try this, a representative represents the positions of her constituents. Better that than taking the position of the hi paying campaign donors.

That's your fantasy to come to terms with.

From The New Yorker:

A New Clue Suggests Biden May Run

Representatives of the Vice-President held a meeting this week with Democratic National Committee staffers. They briefed Biden’s aides on arcane but crucial rules that the Vice-President would need to understand if he decides to run, according to a D.N.C. official.

It was the most significant sign the source had seen to indicate Biden’s intentions. “I think it means he’s running,” the source said.

Means at least he hasn't ruled it out yet.

Even assuming "just doing her job" explains this:

45 times Secretary Clinton pushed the trade bill she now opposes

As Puppycow noted above, it doesn't really explain why she'd praise it in her memoirs, where, as you say, she is allowed to voice more independent positions.

Yet, previously as secretary of state, Clinton called the Trans-Pacific Partnership the "gold standard in trade agreements." In her second memoir, Hard Choices, released in 2014, Clinton lauded the deal, saying it "would link markets throughout Asia and the Americas, lowering trade barriers while raising standards on labor, the environment, and intellectual property." She even said it was "important for American workers, who would benefit from competing on a more level playing field." She also called it "a strategic initiative that would strengthen the position of the United States in Asia."

The thing is, I don't have a problem with the 'waffling' charge.

I'm still looking at the most competent candidate, not the candidate the news media favors with the popularity sans gaffes.

Many of her supporters seem to agree that the end justifies the means. Fortunately, most of the American electorate isn't so afflicted.

Apparently Carson fell victim to the Godwin syndrome.... saying if da j00000s had more guns Hitlers' efforts with the Holocaust would have been greatly hindered

Im usually one of those people who isnt fond of overreaching gun laws... but even this stretches things beyond reason. Carson would have been fine to discuss this issue but I think people would appreciate it if he didnt distort history in the process.

Yes. I saw that story and was rather pissed off.
