I am going to bypass the presidential thread and move onto what really matters.
Democrats- Castro from Texas
Republicans- Rand Paul

I'd like to see
Democrats - Elizabeth Warren or Tipper Gore
Republicans - Wayne LaPierre

I think we'll get:
Democrats - Martin O'Malley
Republicans - Scott Walker

Rand Paul is hard to imagine. Too at odds with gop orthodoxy. I predict Fiorina or Rubio.

Republican's know they need to put someone vaguely moderate on the president side of the ticket but need to appease the crazy right contingent, hence my reasoning for Rand Paul.
Hillary needs to get the Latino/young demographic to the polls. It will be interesting to see what actually happens.

Typically candidates look for someone to provide balance to the ticket; it especially helps if the VP nominee comes from a swing state. A lot of course depends on who wins the Presidential nomination. If Hillary wins, I doubt if she would pick another woman as her running mate. A Hispanic would seem like a good bit of identity politics; Castro (I assume the current Secretary of HUD and former Mayor of San Antonio) might work.

If she doesn't and the Dems nominate a man, then a woman (Warren?) would almost be mandatory (not that Hillary herself would take second fiddle).

On the GOP side, Governor John Kasich of Ohio would be a smart choice. He's popular in his home state (won re-election in 2014 by almost 2-1), which is always a battleground. A Hispanic pick might also help the GOP--Cruz or Rubio (unless Jeb Bush is at the top of the ticket).

Well, I think the GOP had the right idea (if the wrong person) when McCain picked Palin as a running mate. They really do need to counter Hillary with something that softens their image as misogynist bigots. The problem is, no successful woman in their right mind tries to be a Republican politician. There's a few crazies, but nobody sane.

How about Susana Martinez? She's from Texas, is Governor of New Mexico, a woman, hispanic, moderate (?). I haven't heard that she's some sort of Palinesque nutcase.

Do we really need a vice president? In the future they'll just clone the president to have a spare one around if needed.

I doubt Jeb Bush is dumb enough to pick Scott Walker. He's a compulsive liar and is guaranteed to embarrass Bush when they start digging into his statements which they will if he becomes the running mate. I also doubt Jeb Bush would pick Rand Paul or Ted Cruz. Marco Rubio wouldn't help him since he is already seen as flexible on immigration. A Rubio pick could get him a few more Hispanic votes but it would also cause the hardliners to skip the election. I see it as a zero sum gain. I'm also going to assume that even though Jeb defended Mike Pence that he is not dumb enough to run into a thunderstorm with a lightening rod next to him. Kasich would be a better choice. Susana Martinez is not a bad. She is popular with Hispanics. I'm somewhat surprised that her speaking style is only average considering that she was a former prosecutor. Her coziness with Christie might be an issue. And, New Mexico is only good for 5 electoral votes versus Ohio's 20. I think that's a pretty easy choice.

Julian Castro is only 6 years older than Chelsea. He is 27 years younger than Hillary. He is young enough to be her son and he looks it. That will either make him look too young or make her look too old. I don't see that working. To be honest, I'm also not seeing Martin O' Malley.

When the media get through with her she would be Michelle Bachmann's less sane sister. Palin was actually hyped by the media before she was nominated; I remember a particularly glowing piece in Time on her in 2007.

Assuming the Democrats nominate Hillary there would only be a minor benefit to nominating a woman for Veep. The point in 2008 was that the GOP could point to the all-male ticket on the other side as "same old, same old."

Is Carla Fiorina crazy or just evil and incompetent?

When a black guy ran for president, the GOP countered with a female VP (Palin), and then a black guy for the Republican National Committee.

So when Hillary gets the democratic presidential nomination, they will counter with some other demographic they feel makes them relevant.

With the disaster that Palin was last time, they will no doubt grab some non-cacausion male for VP this time. (Assuming they do not try a non-caucasian for President).

It is fairly predictable I think.

Very likely. Possibly Bobby Jindal.

Please, let it be Ben Carson. Please please please, let it be Ben Carson.

*crossing fingers, wishing mightily*
Someone, please pick Palin again.
Please please please

There's a simpler reason why Bush would not pick Rubio: they're from the same state. There's an odd quirk in the electoral college that prohibits the electors from any state from voting for both the president and vice president from that same state. That is, if the Bush/Rubio ticket won Florida, the electors from Florida could not vote for both men; they could only vote for one or the other. This could have the oddball effect of creating a situation where the president was from one party and the VP from another. In fact, in 2000 Dick Cheney had to hurriedly re-establish residency in Wyoming in order to avoid exactly that situation.

Probably just crazy and evil and not very competent, to be fair. But of course, I am Fiorinaphobic.

Very likely. Possibly Bobby Jindal.

This guy is on the road to self destruction by pressing Louisiana GOP to pass “religious freedom” bill that would put Indiana’s to shame. I think we can stick a fork in that one unless he runs with Herman Cain.

Republicans: I have no earthly idea. All of Bush's primary opponents are too nutty or repellent, except for Rubio, who is constitutionally barred (due to them both being from Fla)

Democrats: O'Malley is a good bet, if he doesn't try to get too rough and tumble in the primaries
