Presidential Primaries 2016

Don't see Rob Portman's name on the list, but he has apparently bowed out:

After a stint of strongly floating running for President of United States in 2016, Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) decided he won't.

Portman made the announcement in a statement released early on Tuesday. It was a bit of an about-face from even just a few days earlier when a series of reports had been floating around where Portman was strongly hinting at running for president.

Hillary is arguably competent .

Really?

She was a first lady?

She carpet bagged a Senate seat?

She was the secretary of state, with virtually no accomplishment except

BENGHAZI!!

^
You libs have to admit, that got a little chuckle out of ya.

Yes it is very funny that nothing you said disproves Hillary's competence. But isn't that the usual conservative tact? Never address issues directly, just lots of name-calling and non-sequiturs.

Ok, what makes her competent? what accomplishments does she really have?

Since when is competence a criteria (or even a claim made by candidates) for the Presidency? Many, many losers had the ability to claim "competence." But it just doesn't hold a candle to "the guy you'd rather have a beer with."

Until he gets his internet search problem fixed, it's not going to end any differently. Even if he could, it the ending will still be the same.

I think Google fixed it. At least, that's how it seemed to me when I tried googling it just now.
He has other problems though.

Yes, first from the GOP is R. Santorum. He says it's going to be different this time -- he's not going to make it all about his puritanical religious fervor.

A couple 2012 highlights:

Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that's OK, contraception is OK. It's not OK. It's a licence to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.

Is anyone saying same-sex couples can't love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?

To quote myself: "The closest Mr. Santorum will ever get to the Oval Office is if he happens to take a White House tour."

In my opinion a large problem he would not be able to overcome is his combative Catholicism. His strong religious stances may endear him to the religious right in general, but in specific a number of those allies would also abandon him for the religious differences. Despite whatever changes he makes to his campaign, I doubt his ability to make his religious circumstances a personal issue of little relevance to his seeking office in the way that Kennedy and to a lesser extent Romney was able to do. Romney was an unapologetic Mormon, but he never made his faith central to his politicking in the way that Santorum has done. The spectrum of Catholics in the US is rather diverse, so while Santorum would have strong support of the more dogmatic religiously conservative Catholics, the average Catholic member doesn't line up very well to Santorum's rhetoric. While Romney gave off the impression of out of touch elitism trying to feign charisma, that pales in comparison to Santorum's combativeness. It is much too late for Santorum to develop a George W. Bush type personality. Which in terms of a strong religious political stance is what is needed for a successful presidential run.
