Never mind. You already answered this question here:

Easy prediction: when a doctor's report comes out documenting the fracture, Ginger will claim it was caused by the cop violently opening the door into Michael Brown, which then rebounded back and hit him in the face. And this will not be speculation, but something we all "know".

Still skeptical about the orbital injury story. You would think if there was anything to it every news outlet would be proclaiming it, except for a couple of sources who have a definent bias concerning this story.

In your opinion which sources posted to the thread have shown no bias reporting this story?

I've always wondered - why would a witness need an attorney?

I would not go on Oprah, but if I were a witness to a crime, I might hire a lawyer if I thought that the local police might bend or break the rules while I was being interrogated - especially in a case in which I were receiving death threats.

Can you explain why that might be interesting?

Sure. It is an interesting side note because of the difference in the portrayals of Brown as anything from a violent gangbanger thug to a cherubic soon-to-be student. Where on the spectrum would he have fallen had he lived on is to me a subject of interest.

Even if we were all entirely certain that he was going to live a life a crime, how is that in any possible way relevant to the discussion of this shooting?

It would be quite relevant then, especially if we knew details of the crimes he would have committed. Because having lost his life in this incident, he would obviously no longer committed the crimes.

I can see that, but the attorney wouldn't have to go on Oprah with you, would they? Unless you thought Oprah was going to beat you. :)

I'm sure we will all forget the adamant assertion that Wilson's behavior was not consistent with any appreciable injury at all..

I am unimpressed with that analysis. Witnesses have Officer Wilson being escorted away from the scene soon after the shooting by two police who show up minutes after the shooting, that may not be Wilson walking around but the two other police. The University of Iowa logo not being copied could mean any number of things (including nothing which should be the default assumption unless there's evidence otherwise) and as Charles Johnson's piece admits that site never said that was actually Officer Wilson's medical results.

He probably didn't want to get a take down notice from University of Iowa.

It's pretty crudely done. One long horizontal paint line and two smaller vertical lines. I hope for his sake he didn't use Photoshop-he could've done so much more! Total Noob.

Agreed.

I'd also say it's less tragic for someone who is already a violent felon to be shot dead (by police or otherwise) than a cancer researcher or the head of a large charity, or anyone with a consistent track record of positive contributions to society.

In fact I'm not even sure it's tragic at all for a violent felon to die.

There was some sort of a fight at the vehicle window. That seems solid.

Wilson had some sort of face injury. That seems solid.

Johnson says the door barely opened, and bounced off Brown. That seems logical given the way the encounter happened.

It's almost the first thing you think of when you hear that two people were fighting. Somebody probably got punched in the face.

Brown was in a good position to pop Wilson a good one. Brown was a big guy.

It's not much of a stretch, imo, to think that Brown popped Wilson in the eye at the car window and that punch damaged Wilson's eye socket.

That would prompt Wilson to pull his pistol on Brown due to felony assault of an officer.

Okay, that's a wrap! :D

I guess it depends on his crimes. If he was just going to fraudulently prop up sub prime lending thereby collapsing the entire economy, no need to shoot. But if he was going to intimidate people and steal cigarillos again, shoot away.

Ha. Like we're going to forget KatieG's assertion that Brown was... on the ground, shot in the head, then shot in the back?

I don't think so.

???

I think I'm still missing something.

Michael Bloom, the teen in your avatar, was a reporter for the fictional Bloom Count Beacon in Breathed's original Bloom County strip. When confronted with some questionable reporting, the question would always be resolved (after consulting Opus) with some bombastic headline. Whenever Senator Whomever denies the physical altercation with his wife and points out that he was on a trip to wherever, the headline is Senator Abandons Wife. It's funny in the context of this meta discussion about reportage.

The Gateway Pundit issue was that the orbital fracture allegation was first released by them. It is a somewhat partisan site. The last two-or-three pages contain those exchanges.

Shooting is far too good for that boardroom crew, but we can't seem to get a grip on the slimy bastards. /OT

Skepticism is fine. However, there are legal issues involved with discussing any medical matter, which may be why nobody is willing to speak on the record.

I am not saying the report is true; unlike Ginger, I am not saying it is false based on four lines of evidence.

I suspect you conflated Milo Bloom with Michael Binkley. I loved that strip.

The Gateway Pundit was not the ultimate source of that story, they sourced it to a radio station: Viper 100.7.

Blowout is not a life-threatening injury. It's irrelevant anyway because Wilson wasn't trained as an ophthalmologist and thus would be unaware of the nature of that injury.

I suspect your speculation is more likely to be correct than the one propagated by the Little Green Footballs site.

But knowing that a suspect will certainly commit robbery and burglary at some future date cannot be used as a factor in determining whether the LEOs actions were correct or incorrect. How wonderful or heinous a suspect is is irrelevant to discussing the shooting.

And even if it could and should be a factor, the death penalty is not appropriate for robbery and burglary. Or did your future speculation involve Brown murdering people?
