I read this thread for it's entertainment value. This is a good one:
And ah yes... the US has it's founding fathers, and Italy has Pinocchio.
Samson dear, what would those founding father say about modern day America's Medieval justice system? A justice system where:
1. The total prison population has grown by 500 percent over the last 30 years.
2. As of 2012 there are 159,520 people behind bars
for life In 2013, 10,000 Americans were spending their
lives in jail for non-violent crimes. Increasingly, these life sentences come without the possibility of being released on parole.
3. Currently,
one-third of the world's entire imprisoned female population is awaiting trial or serving sentences in the U.S., mostly for nonviolent crimes.
4. The US locks up more juveniles than any other developed country. An estimated 2,570 Americans are serving life sentences for crimes committed as juveniles.
5. Big corporations are making a killing off of the the US's privatized prison system, creating financial incentive to put people behind bars... and keep them there.
Now consider the above in the context of the following from Time magazine:
"More Innocent People on Death Row Than Estimated"

What was that again about Pinocchio?
