Not to mention that the guilters' case is also a conspiracy theory: they theorise a conspiracy between Guede, Knox and Sollecito. So it would be no surprise if 9/11 truthers like proudfootz were also guilters.

My point was, in case you missed it, that 9-11 was a conspiracy even if you attribute the whole thing to Al Qaeda with no dark government forces involved. My real point is that to believe the word 'conspiracy' has magical properties as you seem to do (and you are in good company here at JREF - I have no idea how such a state of affairs came to pass) is misconceived.
And I discovered wooly, closed-minded thinking in abundance, a huge groupthink problem, and an active willingness - fully supported, indulged and even added to by the moderators! - to gang up and attack newcomers and/or anyone who challenged their "agreed" dogma about the case. It truly, honestly was an eye-opener for me. I'd never engaged in any form of online debate before, and I had (naively) assumed that intelligent, well-reasoned debate would win through. Instead, I quickly found that places like .org were mainly serving as repositories for damaged, bitter people who seemed to use the site as some sort of alter-ego outlet for their anger at things that were going on in their real-world lives. And nearly all of them were either ignorant/stupid or had allowed themselves to be deeply ensnared in confirmation bias and groupthink.
I sought out a forum that was discussing the case online. Naturally, Google immediately pointed me to pmf.org, so there I went. I very quickly became surprised and disappointed by the mindless zealotry on display, coupled with a really nasty underlying vindictiveness and antagonism being shown towards Knox (in particular) and Sollecito.

Nope - the african emigrant referred to was RG.
The guy who, according to various groupies (and S Moore - remember him) was was a police informant who had to be protected to cover up something or other thus setting in motion the vast conspiracy against RS & AK !
The protection in this case amounting to giving him life\30 at his 1st trial.
C'mon you must have heard of him ? and this conspiracy ??
Not PL, the african emigrant falsely accused by AK at the drop of ahatalibi.
Is it that easy to confuse one black guy with another - apparently it is.
Sorry, upon re-reading I realize you meant Rudy.
No, the identity of the actual murderer didn't matter, they didn't know that for a week after they'd made utter fools of themselves in arresting Raffaele, Patrick and Amanda. No matter who it was, that was going to make them look like fools...unless they blamed Amanda for it. It wasn't to protect Rudy but to protect themselves from the consequences of their wrongful arrest.
I still disputing the police were not protecting Rudy Guede. The pattern of facts regarding the prosecutor & police and Guede prior to the Kercher murder support this contention, as well as the police behavior on upon Mignini's initial arrival at the crime scene, and their effort to cast suspicion away from Guede.
It was Mignini who walked into that courtroom before Matteini on November 8th that took the little 'evidence' he had and 'sexed it up' beyond all recognition. Think of what he actually had: A confused statement saying Patrick and Amanda stopped by the cottage then at some point they went off together into her room and had sex then Patrick murdered her while Amanda cowered in the kitchen. They had a statement from Raffaele that was not incriminating in the slightest outside it said Amanda and he had parted at the square at 9 PM. From Patrick they had nothing outside the name of Usi as a potential alibi and presented evidence suggestive his bar was closed until later that night. Physical evidence was only suggestive of Raffaele's shoes being 'compatible' with the shoeprints left by Rudy Guede and those just went out of the murder room and appeared to end at the door, which could well have happened after the murder and of course were only compatible, not a match. They also knew there was only one person who had their DNA inside the victim.
There was absolutely no basis for thinking there were multiple murderers, a sex game, or any of the other nonsense Mignini (with an assist from Matteini I believe) just made up. What the police handed Mignini was merely suggestive of someone losing control and killing someone. From there it was Mignini who caused Raffaele and Amanda to be embroiled in actively committing this crime as opposed to any other scenario, none of which Mignini had any evidence at all for outside his imagination.
It was the police who changed everything by tracking down Rudy Guede and at that point the idea of Raffaele and Amanda being at the forefront had already been 'well established'--by Mignini not the police in Perugia.
Well we've had this discussion before and it bloated, making conversation difficult. But basically you're drawing a hard distinction between the police investigation and Mignini's machinations, whereas I see the two as much closer if not inseparable. Mignini was on the crime scene by 3pm I believe, and Napoleone was first on the scene around 2pm. Mignini has formal responsibility over the crime scene and authorized Zugarini to kick in the door downstairs. He's not just there for the ride. Mignini had a vested interest in "discovering" another group crime of a satanic sex cult nature, as he was fighting two other cases based on Mignini's same allegations - one a case against a Florence pharmacist that was devolving into a farce, and the second for abuse of office against himself for exceeding his authority in an earlier branch of the same long running case. Mignini had an incentive to implicate Amanda and others to support his theories.
The question of whether Guede was being protected by Mignini and/or the police hinges on what relationship may have existed between them and Guede prior to the Kercher killing. As I'm sure you're aware, Guede was released from Milan police 5 days before the Kercher killing with the help of a phone call from the Perugian authorities (not sure who made the call). Guede has been reported to have been on a crime spree in Perugia, and the police and prosecutor allowed him to get away with his crimes because he was useful to them in some way, as an informant. Both Steve Moore and Nencini have asserted the Perugian police would have been familiar with Guede's MO for breaking and entry; a rock through a window, with using a metal grating as a ladder to assist with the climb up to the second floor. You dispute this why?
We agree that Mignini trumped up the multiple assailants, and the sex angle. (the autopsy found signs of sexual arousal without signs of rape, although contact could have been at a point where resistance was impossible, so the claims though wrong, didn't come out of nowhere). But you want to suggest the police were just investigating, and Mignini was out there free wheeling. I think the police could have legitimately believed the shoe prints were Raf's, and that his pocket knife was the murder weapon. These facts were later proven false, but the arrest and interrogations were all within the same 12 hours or so. The question is, to what degree was Mignini guiding the thinking? The nature of the interrogations was to get Amanda to implicate Lumumba. That was the police who conducted that interrogation. The police took Amanda to the cottage on Nov 4th and tried to get her to pick up a knife. I've argued that was to try to get her prints or DNA on a knife that Stef could magically match up with Meredith's DNA in the lab. Maybe you agree or not, but again, that's the police. I know you want to tell the story the way you want, but these are facts you're not taking into account.
My big issue is whether, once they caught Guede, if they sill believed that Ms Knox and Mr Sellecito were still guilty?
Did they come up with their bizarre story and continue prosecuting due to embarrassment, reputation, and/or financial reasons?
If so, which one?
I have often asked the same questions with the Norfolk Four.
I tend to think that they really did know the guys were innocent and persecuted both for prosecution reputation and because they did not want to be able to be sued - and that really scares me.
Assuming that once they got Guede, they released Ms Knox and Mr Sellecito with an apology, do you think there would have been any major fallout?
I don't disagree with any of this, and would also add that it was Mignini who caused the temperature not to be taken adding more doubt about the actual time of death. However I also think it's important to remember who made the case. That came from the mind of Mignini, he's the one, perhaps with an assist from Matteini, who made this case into a farce. The police gathered evidence, and Mignini had authority there, but the police didn't make the case to the court, Mignini did, that's where it got weird.
I don't think they had enough information about Rudy Guede at that point (November 2-5) to zero in on him. This is a college town of about 100k which also attracts drug culture denizens from many places, from what I've read there's plenty of crimes unsolved and unreported, witness CT going home because there was too long a line and it would take too long to file a report. The ones we know of (and it's quite possible there's ones we don't know about but the police did) aren't especially serious, CT escaped with no injuries and as a result didn't follow through with a report, the burglary of the lawyers office wasn't especially noteworthy and the nursery was in Milan and they never actually investigated it themselves.
Rudy didn't actually have a record, looking for a candidate for a breaking and entering there's sure to be more viable candidates, ones with records.. They also weren't looking for a burglar, very early in the investigation they came to the conclusion the break-in was staged. There's lots of indications this is so, it's what they were telling papers at the time, (some even had it as the killer escaping the scene through the window!) what they were telling the courts at the time, and what they said consistently throughout afterward about what they thought at the first.
I want to get the story right and that means facts have to be given the weight they deserve and other possibilities considered for their relevance. I do believe the police were suspicious of Amanda anyway (for various reasons) and if you're right about Napoleoni's motives that stunt would have value against Amanda but not much of anyone else and does nothing for Guede because regardless they're going to have to find a male for the rape part, and they had the means to know it was likely someone of African origin. Mignini wasn't even at the first interrogation, he didn't come in until after Amanda had signed the 1:45 AM statement, I don't think he was guiding their thinking to the extent necessary, though I do believe he was suspicious of her as well.
It also cannot be stressed enough: the police in Perugia did track down Rudy Guede and they did gather plenty of evidence for his conviction, so much so they tried to slough some of it off on Raffaele and Amanda. However by the time this occurred Mignini had already made a major splash with his bizarre theory, which in the circumstances pending against him from previous cases where he'd made a fool of himself might well have come home to haunt him. Imagine if he had to admit his bizarre theory was just the product of his imagination and what little they did have was due to poor interrogation methods and close-minded investigative techniques.
There doesn't need to be any other reason outside that, it didn't matter who the actual killer was, that person was going to be in fortuitous circumstances due to the police and prosecution already having told everyone they'd 'solved' the case. At that juncture either they admit they had everything wrong from the first and made utter and complete fools of themselves, or they 'determine' Amanda is an especially devious murderess and was 'responsible' for their mistake, which perversely could be used against her as well in the media and the courts. At that point Amanda, who papers had focused in on anyway, was likely to get a key role.
I still dispute the police were not protecting Rudy Guede. The pattern of facts regarding the prosecutor & police and Guede prior to the Kercher murder support this contention, as well as the police behavior on upon Mignini's initial arrival at the crime scene, and their effort to cast suspicion away from Guede.
My new avatar bothers me a bit.
For there was a blonde hair found near where that semen stain,
err vaseline stain was found between Meredith's legs,
near her vagina.
There was also another blonde hair found in her dead,
upraised left hands dying grasp.

Some think this is a fiber, I don't.
Go yank a thread outta a quilt and see.
Its weight and gravity will make it fall downward.
That is a wavy blonde hair strand, IMHO.
AND it was conveniently lost by ILE.
2 blonde hairs,
1 found between her legs and 1 found in her hand,
and 2 semen stains,
1 found between her legs and 1 found below her left upraised hand.
Hmmmm...
If it was hair,
it sure did not come from Rudy Guede.
Wasn't Guede's buddy Kokomani a police informant?
Didn't his phone ping near Meredith's flat that evening.
Why did Kokomani show up to court dressed to hide?
What color was Hekuran Kokmomani's hair?
Weird...
What is it about the pattern of facts regarding the prosecutor and police and Guede prior to the Kercher murder that supports your suspicion that the authorities were protecting Guede in the initial investigatory stages of the murder? Please show me what you are looking at.
And on what basis would you exclude Mignini from such a role? Because you "don't think he played that big a role at that point'? Not good enough for me, its not enough to claim you're right on this point.
Where we're differing, is the police familiarity with Guede before the Kercher killing, and any effort to protect Guede as a result.
Your suggestion that GUede didn't have a record, reference to the size of the town, unsolved crimes, the severity of Guede's past crimes are reasonable questions to ask. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Napoleone actually acknowledged the police were familiar with Guede before the murder because of burglary activities in Perugia.
Moreover, the Milan arrest had Rudy in possession of the items stolen from the law office in Perugia with the same MO as the cottage, rock through a second story window, with a metal grating assisted climb-up. In addition there was a phone call from Perugia asking Milan to put Rudy on the next train back to Perugia.
These facts were enough to convince Steve Moore, highly decorated 25 year veteran of the FBI. No disrespect, but is your experience in crime scene analysis remotely comparable to Moore? If not, then why are you so quick to dismiss his conclusions, and substitute your own, not merely as alternatives, but as fact? The fact that you don't like the conclusion does not diminish Moore's professional credentials, nor at least some level of inferred credibility that ought reasonably confer. Your reasons are conjectural. So are Moore's really, but his conjecture is far better informed than yours (AFAIK - I don't know your background, but you do).
Add to this Nencini's confirmation that the police knew Guede well enough to be familiar with his B&E MO. Nencini raised the issue on a different context, bizarrely trying to imply that Guede would not fake a break-in in his own style and draw attention to himself, therefore Amanda and Raf staged the break-in, inexplicably in Guede's style.
The idea that it could be an actual break-in by Guede, is outside Nencini's universe. But it's interesting that Nencini would confirm the police familiarity with Guede and his B&E MO when they arrive at the crime scene on day one. You have no reason to dispute this, other than conjecture of how you would expect things to be, rather than accepting positive indications of how things actually are - at least according to subject matter experts. (Normally Nencini is a questionable source, but Rudy provides probable half-truths too, we just have to sort through it a bit).
But protecting Guede is an additional factor for not backing down. You say they came to the conclusion the break-in was staged, and point to the stories they leaked in the press at the time. Apart from the fact that they leaked false stories regularly to the press, what reason do you have to believe the police genuinely believed the break-in was staged?
Massei PMF 56 said:It is a matter of a hypothesis which in some way appears to be aired and almost suggested in the recording of November 20, 2007 in which Amanda at a certain point has the following dialogue with her father, to whom she says, talking about Rudy:
Amanda: "Yes, I know, I know, I mean I hardly know him ... I never invited him to my house before."
Father: "Do you believe that Meredith did so?"
Amanda: "Ah, I know that she knows him through Giacomo ... therefore"
Father: "Is he one of the boys downstairs?"
Amanda: "Yes, he was her boyfriend ... therefore ... perhaps he was saying: I’m looking for Giacomo ... can I come in? Or something like that..."
Further on Amanda goes on, saying "That is, I know that she had seen him before, but I don’t know why she let him into the house."
The excuses the police give to suggest it was a staged break-in, a female perpetrator because of the duvet covering the body, their refusal to test the glass to prove which way the glass was broken, and the lies of 'glass on top of clothes'. The concealment of DNA profiles downstairs, and the hundreds of hidden profiles. The refusal to test the semen stain, or concealing the fact that they did test it, we really don't know.
You're willing to accept the police's assertion that they believed the break-in was staged. I'm not. If the break-in wasn't staged, they have a single perp.
And you are committed to the idea, that the police tracked down Guede is proof that they weren't protecting Guede. I say Mignini plays the cards he's dealt. They had prints in blood that matched Guede to his records as an immigrant. How could they not follow up.
How are we supposed to substitute our conjecture for what may have happened, with what did happen. I can't, and I don't think you can either. We have to be able to admit when we've reached the limit our theory allows. Ultimately, I think the police collect what they can, but Mignini assembles the pieces of the puzzle.
My big issue is whether, once they caught Guede, if they sill believed that Ms Knox and Mr Sellecito were still guilty?
