What have I ever done to you or anyone here to deserve this?
BLAARGing on a skeptic site.
This is a breakthrough. Something we agree very much about: Teaching deception to the young is wrong.
But were this a subject like magic, you would acknowledge that it is deception and not be offended by anyone pointing it out. Or if you taught your kids to deceive a pedophile who has them cornered - nobody would criticize that.
But what you are acknowledging for us is that this kind of deception is very different. Harmful. So sure, you disagree that you have deceived anyone, but you agree that such deception is very wrong.
One of the most important features of a good manipulator is exactly what you point out: to always be "polite" when gaming people. Successful con men are the most charming people in the room. Being charming about how you deceive people is one of the most insidious aspects to the deception game. It's how you disarm people, like right now with playing the victim: "but I have been charming".
Yes, you have. But I'm still figuratively driving a wooden stake through the heart.
