I find it unlikely that someone who isn't really racist is going to resort to racist language when angry. There's no dearth of non-racist invective to choose from.

If the intention is just to offend and racist/sexist/homophobic/whatever slur best seems to trigger and anger the target, then that ought to be best for the job, no? Finding nicer insults seems like an oxymoron and counterproductive to the aim of offending someone. In another words, it seems to have the same mechanism as trolling.

So? Sounds like they were dogs and animals. I think he is specifically talking about the violent thugs that attacked him.

Do they? There are certain places I would very very uncomfortable being white.... where you would be a target specifically for being white.

Actually the same is true for a lot of groups. There are a lot of places blacks wouldn't feel comfortable... and shouldn't be. I would have no problem if a black guy got attacked in some white trash southern town and went on a tirade.

These two remind me of racists complaining about Jewish conspiracies, but now it is black people:

What I did see was a strong critique of black culture.... and even if he is wrong or has misplaced anger. I don't see racism.

None of that proves racism. Even if he is wrong.

He has a problem with certain aspects of black culture..... Just like Bill Cosby.

To me it's and angry rant about the worst parts of black culture and a guy pissed off about it.

Non-racist doesn't mean "nicer", but never mind; his words on Twitter weren't directed at his assailant in the heat of the moment. I have no idea what he actually said to the woman he says attacked him; but somehow I really doubt that he used the same racist language that he employed on Twitter toward her directly, or toward the other black "savages" he claimed came to support her. Guys like him tend to wait until they're safely surrounded by other white people before letting the racism fly.

Yes but he wasn't just talking about the woman who attacked him, was he? Like you just said:

Yeah, the other people he encountered - "5 blacks" who evidently didn't actually do anything to him at all, but whom he still calls "violent savages" who make the city "a jungle".
