As many of you know I'm not attending TAM this year, but I wanted to make sure the tradition of an "In Memoriam" reel continues. Daniel & Cheryl Loxton are doing the production on it this year, based on a list I compiled.

Naturally since TAM is next week, we need to get this locked down and finished ASAP. Note this list includes skeptic, science & freethought luminaries (tagged "In Memoriam") as well as paranormalists, pseudoscientists and others we oppose (tagged "Passages").

Because this is a JREF event we do also include JREF supporters and Forumites who have passed, you will note that NobbyNobbs is listed this year. Please chime in if I've missed others who have died since the last TAM.

Time is of the essence as we have to get this video finished, so let us know ASAP in this thread or email me directly.

Here is the list we have as of now: http://bit.ly/TAM2014obits

Thanks!

Wasn't there a 9/11 nut who got banned from here? I can't recall his name. Pretended he was in the air force or something? Although, he might have died more than a year ago.

Would that be Michael Ruppert, by any chance? He's a Truther I already have on the list who killed himself in April.

Having not ventured back into the JREF forums for going on two years now, this is the first I'd heard of NobbyNobbs' passing. Rest easy, Michael; I'll miss you.

I was wondering where you were. You've been missed.

Roger Misner, aka ULTIMA1. I think that was more than a year ago, though.

There was another guy who posted here who got killed in a shootout with the cops. I want to say Neveos but I am not sure.

Ah ok, I was able to determine Roger Misner (ULTIMA1 on the forum and elsewhere on teh net) passed away in February 2011 and was in fact an Air Force veteran, at least according to this obituary.

I'll put him in my files, but no he wouldn't qualify for this year's reel. I've sometimes listed people that we missed in the passed, but they have to be VERY notable to rate that. This year we included C.M. Hansel who died in 2011 but that's because he was a CSICOP Fellow.

FYI the reel did run on Sunday in the noon break, and seemed well received from the social media reaction I saw. As soon as I can get the video file from the Loxtons I'll post it online and in this thread.

You switched from the Amazing Meeting to the not-so-amazing game. (I know, very American of me but 120 minutes of no scoring is not my cup of water.)

Actually it was a terrific game. I've really never understood the need people have that they have to see lots of scoring. It makes no sense.

Oh that's too bad I didn't know about Neveos before TAM. I've put him in my files if I do a year-end obit wrap-up.

I gotta say, putting this year's In Memoriam together has got me thinking about how important the issue of mental illness is to skepticism. Not counting Neveos, there are 3 other people in the list this year (out of 74 total) whose deaths were suicides. One of them was a skeptic.

Not a huge sample, but it does seem quite a bit higher than the rate for the population as a whole in the western world. (Annual US deaths in general is about 750 to 800 per 100,000 people depending on year and adjustments, and suicides are about 10 to 12 per 100,000 people).

That assumes that you listed every skeptic who died last year.

You probably didn't. :)

From the Aurora shooting conspiracy thread:

ETA: It wasn't a shootout, he charged the cop with a raised hatchet, but it was Neveos.
That's creepy given his second to last comment was one of those, "I'm outta here" posts.
Alright, guys, this is turning into a time-bandit operation. I don't really want to bother with it anymore. Thanks for some more reason/content I can use for debunking the official story.

Not quite, 'I'm leaving the forum', and he did post one more time in Jan of 2014.

Perhaps a bit of paranoid delusions can be seen in his posts if you are looking for it.

Sylvia Browne may have been a terrible person, but I thought it was rather tasteless for people to applaud when her name came up in the presentation.
