America and Guns,

Prior to legislation we need to increase the rift between the gun lobby and the rest of us. That however, will be generational. We need to get to a point where gun ownership and gun advocacy become embarrassing. Highlighting stories of dumb gun owners and gotcha sound bite politics of pro gunners should be the cornerstones of Bloomburg's strategy.

My dream is that one day, the kids of every gun owner in America will roll their eyes and say "dad, please don't talk about your guns; everyone will think we're nut cases".

A march in NYC brought out hundreds? And a liberal writer at a liberal rag fantasizes about repealing the Second Amendment?

This will be generational. We didn't get this way overnight and we won't fix it overnight. The good news is that it's already starting. Gun ownership is down to just over thirty percent of households from fifty percent and the households with guns are white and rural. As we get more urbanized that will shrink. Once it's down in the 20s there will only be a few pockets of legislative resistance left.

I am 30. I believe that as long as the United States immorally bans private ownership of the M4, the American people are only one step above slaves.

As I've written before, I think guns should be legal, highly regulated, and the mark of a moron. In other words, just as racism is legal, acting on your racism is highly regulated against, and people who hold racist views are mocked and hated. I think a similar consensus on guns would be a major boon to humanity.

It's funny you should mention that because I developed my views based in the decreasing use of the "n" word in society. It is possible through non-legislative pressure to make gun ownership as acceptable as having a white hood in you closet. The trick is to understand how this will be a slow process.

The mark of a moron? So I am labeled a moron for owning firearms? Please do elaborate on how all gun owners are morons.

I haven't posted on these forums in a while. Seems like the ignorance about guns has increased. So someone likes to have a pistol for competitive target shooting and you want society to make them feel embarrassed about it and label them as nut cases? Someone wants to keep a gun in a locked safe at home for self defense purposes and they are crazy?

You sound like you would be a part of the people seeking out witches in Salem.

The MA forbids me from commenting on you, personally. So I'll just reiterate that I think owning guns is stupid. I think guns are a blight on society and that people who contribute to that blight are foolish beyond belief. That you get so riled up if anyone threatens the Precious only reinforces my point. Society would be far better off if owning guns was viewed as being as toxic and backwards as owning a white hood, or advocating a return to the gold standard, or removing women from the workplace, or only letting the landed gentry vote.

Yeah, that wont happen. Keep dreaming.

It's already happening. Fewer people own guns as a percentage of the population. The biggest problem is that those who do own guns are hoarding them and building personal arsenals, but that only accelerates the trend. I think the open carry crazies and the gun absolutists are hurting their own cause and making it really hard to find that elusive "rational gun owner". Most people are happy to be non-gun owners.

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...ricans-own-guns-but-just-how-many-is-unclear/

A Pew Research Center survey conducted in February found that 37% of households had an adult who owned a gun — 24% said they owned a gun, and 13% said someone else in their household did.

It's down to that 27% range. That number pops up a lot when discussing crazy.

”Obama vs. Alan Keyes. Keyes was from out of state, so you can eliminate any established political base; both candidates were black, so you can factor out racism; and Keyes was plainly, obviously, completely crazy. ******* crazy. Head-trauma crazy. But 27% of the population of Illinois voted for him. They put party identification, personal prejudice, whatever ahead of rational judgement. Hell, even like 5% of Democrats voted for him. That's crazy behaviour. I think you have to assume a 27% crazification factor in any population.[1]

This logic is...suspect.

Well if you say so. However, it is still my opinion, even after your vicious takedown, that owning guns is stupid and that guns are a blight on society.

Person A: I think people who eat meat are savages.

Person B: I eat meat, do you think I'm a savage?

Person A: If you get so riled up at my suggesting that your eating meat makes you a savage then you must be a savage!

Of course you're more than welcome to your sanctimonious opinion.

There are people who eat because they're hungry or like it, and there are people who get outraged at the mere suggestion they eat more vegetables. Gun nuts are the people who are outraged that you suggest they eat more broccoli and deny any connection between meat and heart attacks.
