Okay, this is a gun nut.

Police identify last known owner of loaded gun found in Target toy aisle

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A real gun was found in the toy aisle of Target on Seaboard Street. The police report states a loss prevention worker stumbled upon the gun Friday night.

The gun was in plain view on top of a superhero Playskool toy box when the worker found it; he thought it was a toy. He realized it was real after seeing it was loaded with live ammo.

The fact that it was found in an aisle geared toward children makes some shoppers feel this was no accident.

"I don't think someone would accidentally drop off a gun. I think he purposely left it there for a child to pick up and think, 'Oh it's a toy gun,' and accidentally point it at somebody and it goes off," says Kennedy McClain.

Fletcher Armstrong III, a Concealed Weapons Permit instructor with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, explains it is never too early to start talking gun safety with children.

Article continues.

My suspicion is that he left the gun there so somebody would get hurt and the owner of the gun would get blamed. Based on a deep lack of faith in the goodness of human nature.

I didn't read the article but I pesonally have kept a gin in my home and auto since 1974 without an accident. Guns are like tools you treat them with respect and nothing will happen.

Whose responsibility is it to "respect" these tools? Because people leave hammers lying around all the time. Hell, stores hang dozens of them out where anyone could just grab one. Crazy! Those things are deadly!

You're comparing Budweiser to Grey Goose. Guns need to be locked because they're more expensive.

It would appear that someone left an actual firearm in a toy store. I can't imagine someone doing this by accident.

More people get murdered with hammers than with assault rifles.

They can have my hammer when they pry it from my cold dead callused hands.

You're right, that is a gun nut.

A more likely explanation is that the owner and/or her boyfriend were trying to ditch the gun because they were concerned it might link them to a crime, and the rest can be written off to "criminals are stupid".

Or maybe it fell out of the carriers pocket and landed right on top of the playschool toys?

Not to argue, but could you point to stats that support this statement? Inquiring minds want to know.

Stupid is right. A more logical place is in a trash bin or a storm drain. Dumping it in a toy store would likely bring it to the attention of the police that much sooner.

The first explanation was posited because a fully loaded gun was left in a toy aisle where a child would be almost certain to find it and play with it.

Your explanation that the gun was used in a crime and then ditched by the criminals in order to avoid then gun being linked to them is "more likely" than the first explanation because...?

Really? In the toy section of a chain store with video cameras all over? I admit this is superior to dumping it in a sewer, much like building a Saturn 3 rocket is superior to building a toy prop rocket to fake a moon landing.
