zen

a stupid question:"On the 7th day of each month I sit an the table, on the 28th day of each month you can eat with me. What do these sentences mean?"

Correct, wise answer for this stupic question:
TODAY IS MONDAY
Incorrect answer. Where I live TODAY IS TUESDAY

Regardless of what a Zen Master tells you, TODAY IS X has nothing to do with the stupid question and are not "Correct, wise answer for this stupic question".

Provide the "correct answer" to the "clapping" question (put up or shut up).

You are too full of yourself to learn.

You have understood nothing yet prance and preen.

Incorrect answer. Where I live TODAY IS TUESDAY

Provide the "correct answer" to the "clapping" question (put up or shut up).

As it happens, if you hold your wrist firm and loosen your fingers, keeping them in a cupped position, when you shake your hand horizontally, the fingers will flap into the palm. The sound of one hand clapping. Not deep, not zen, but eminently factual. Have a nice Tuesday, and enjoy the show. I suspect the woo is very strong with this one!

Don't make anything!

Complexity - I prance and preen for you.

ynot - I cannot give the answer to the thief. The one who wants the answer from someone else is a thief. You want to be a thief! If I give you the answer, you must hit me!

you can't show up here talking nonsense and then demand that people hit you, you need to get them to form an orderly queue first
;)

incorrect answers

Only zen teachers can check if a koan answer is right or wrong. I cannot check them as I am not an enlightened zen teacher.
Then how do you know they're incorrect? And why does it matter to you so much to tell someone whether or not they're "correct"?

So to prevent being a thief I need to pay you for the answer as you have paid the zen masters for the answers they have given you?

No, I think that, being logical and fair thinkers, we'd naturally form an orderly queue without being told.

It's fine to ask abstract questions, but make sure they don't have reasonable straightforward answers first.

(Maybe this is a translation issue? Such as, for example, the word translated as "clapping" in the original language means only the striking of one hand against another, rather than, as in English, also applying to any striking together that produces a sound?)

Respectfully,
Myriad

Yes, that's called the Sevenfold Path: cash, check, money order, PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

I'm not the only one here expert at hitting on guys am I
:p

I used to have a certain knack for it, but I'm afraid I've had to pass on the torch...

That, of course, was quite a story in itself.

You have added a few twists that I never thought of. :eye-poppi

To be able to claim you are “enlightened” and a “zen master” you have to have a gimmick to sell to suckers. In this case the gimmick is stupid questions that sound mysteriously deep and meaningful but are actually merely shallow and meaningless. Koans are the Zen version of homeopathy.

I think I'd rather hear what an enlightened zen teacher would say then. Where can I find an enlightened zen teacher?

Master is my official job title and I get paid for it, where can I get some of this enlightenment, would I have more chance of picking some up anywhere else but this thread ?
:D
