Would You Take Driving Points For Someone Else?

Never. Made an illegal Left Hand turn 16 years ago. Got 4 points, spent $96.00 and a full day in traffic school to reduce the points to 1. Probably saved my life as have obeyed all traffic laws since then, always.

What a complete shower of idiots.

True, what a tangled web we weave and all that.

As a barrister and part time judge, Constance Briscoe should have been aware of the punishment for lying. The BBC story now has more detail and it makes for depressing reading.

BBC said:
In a second statement on 16 August 2012 she denied having any contact with journalists ...

BBC said:
Briscoe denied deliberately misleading police, saying it was always clear she had spoken to journalists by the fact her name was used in newspaper stories about the speeding points.

Her defence was 'it was obvious I was lying'?

It is an original defence, you have to give her that.

She's been jailed for 16 months (so she'll serve 8), and I suspect she'll be sacked from the judiciary.

At the very least. I would expect her to be disbarred also.

I've just listened to a feature on Ms Briscoe's case on Radio 2, and it seems that now she's been branded a liar, her mother may try to reopen the libel case which Constance Briscoe won.

The BBC report says it's possibly the first time a member of the judiciary has been jailed for PCoJ. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27254145

I had a feeling that might happen.

It might be a slam dunk, if she does ...

Now, a BBC investigation has learned Briscoe is facing a further criminal inquiry about her actions during a libel case brought against her by her mother.
A spokeswoman said: "We were contacted in September last year regarding an allegation of fraud, which relates to documents that were allegedly fraudulently obtained from Southwark Council. The matter is being investigated by Lewisham CID."
