Would You Hire This Man?

Is there some kind of time-line for this? I'm just wondering if I have time to shop around before people start getting raptured or if I should plan to snatch the first rapturously vacated house I see.

And we thought there was a glut of inventory in the housing market right now. Sheesh.

So here's my question, since Obama is the anti-christ and has been elected, this means the end-times have started right?

Again? Man, these end times just keep on coming.

I had a cool experience once, that anyone can probably repeat. I went to the University of Illinois, which has a truly grand library. Thousands upon thousands of books, collected over the course of a century and a half, in a huge building. I was researching some obscure topic. Since there was no google, I actually had to go in the library and look for a book, and I came to the section on "prophecy", and there was a whole shelf of books on "the end times". Each one was demonstrating their proofs that soon, very soon, we were entering the time of the anti-Christ. The earliest had been written in the Civil War. The roles of Gog and Magog were played by Turks, Russians, and English.

None of them, however, mentioned the election of a liberal black man to the office of President of the United States as the sign of impending doom. Maybe they just hadn't read their prophecies closely enough.

I was being facetious by the way. I did vote for the man after all.

I've also notice that people who believe in the Rapture and the Tribulation constantly point to signs that it's starting or is about to start. I don't get the point much myself, seeing as they think it's inevitable that the "Anti-Christ" will take over, why try to stop it? At the very least they would get a great big "I told you so" to all us sinners.

Seriously though, as people have pointed out, the end-times have been predicted many times over and still no Rapture, tribulation, whatever.

As for proving that the e-mail is a bunch of lies-there is this little thing called the internet. You clearly have at least a passing knowledge of it. You can do what a lot of other people have done and use it to find the truth. Of course, you could continue to use it to confirm your own beliefs that Obama is evil.
Here's a pretty good list.

The first tribulations will be in 2152, although it may take a while for their full extent to become apparent.

Does anyone else find it creepy to know that there are people who actually think like this? In this modern day and age, there are people who actually think a man is going to be assassinated and then resurrected and walk around among us. Despite all of the evidence of their senses to the contrary (living in a world in which nobody ever rises from the dead, for example), they think that someday all of this fairy-tale, fantasy stuff is going to start happening. It must just be a weird way to live. I honestly, sincerely and literally can't even think how it would feel to believe this way. I can't imagine what it must be like to think that the world works like that.

I find it beyond creepy. I find it absolutely terrifying that there are people living in my country that are such extreme fundamentalists that they believe this crazy stuff.

You're right Kathy. You should be concerned. In fact, I suggest you hole up in the mountains in case the Communist Atheist Muslim Homosexual African armies come for you.

Yes, go hole up in the mountains, wait for teh Rapture, and leave the rest of us the hell alone.

ETA: I notice that KK hasn't posted here since the election. Perhaps she really has headed for the hills?

Now that Obama is President-elect, will you, Kathy, support your President?

I hate this sort of question.

I voted for Obama. I even put in some volunteer time on the campaign. I'm tremendously excited and optimistic about his presidency.

However, I also fully expect to speak out in dissent when (not if) he does or says things I strongly disagree with.

We don't pledge allegiance to our presidents. If someone has school children sing "God Save Obama" or something like that, I will be disgusted.

So what does "support your President" mean exactly?

Does it mean unquestioning support for every decision he makes?

If that's what it means, then count me among those who won't "support the President".

I suspect that's not what you mean. I suspect you're just trying to gloat a bit at the expense of an Obama detractor. Trying to rub her face in it. Not very gracious.

While I understand what you're saying, Joe, I interpreted that to mean "Would you accept the fact that Obama has been chosen by the majority [of the Electoral Votes] in the United States, and that he is now your legally appointed Commander-in-Chief?"

Yesterday I overheard one side of a phone conversation from a very bitter McCain supporter here at my office. He said into the phone, "He's YOUR president, NOT MINE!".

This is the kind of attitude SezMe was probably referring to when (s)he asked KK that question. And I'm curious as well. WILL she accept Obama as the legitimate POTUS? This doesn't mean agreeing with him on every policy decision, or even liking the man.

Sorry. Pet peeve of mine so indulge me for a moment and then carry-on: Obama will be the "commander in chief" only of the armed forces, not the nation. Joe - who I assume is a civilian - has a President, not a "commander in chief".

But its cool, this has been more and more pervasive recently and its a long-running trend (I found innappropriate references to "commander in chief" from the Nixon campaign!), i'm fighting the tide, but hey, someone has to do it..:)

Not to split hairs, but I never said "Commander in chief of the nation", so it's valid as it stands ;)

...

But in reality, since that's what I meant, you're right.

You make some good points, Joe, but this .....[/quote]

... is the kind of thing I had in mind. And the assertion that he is the anti-christ of some sort.

If McCain and Obama are right that we need to find some common ground to deal with the major problems facing our country then people like Kathy holding such damaging positions are a real problem. I'd like to know she'll put constructive dialog ahead of religious fervor.

Of course support does not mean blind acceptance. I too worked for Obama but will be with you at the head of the complaint line when he does something I don't agree with.

I have to confess to being guilty of this for the past eight years myself. I have refused, for the entire eight years, to refer to Bush as the president or as President Bush or as anything but just Bush (or worse). I even had (I took it off Tuesday night!) a bumper sticker on my car that said "He's STILL not my president."

But that was because I never considered him to be the legitimate winner of the 2000 election. I felt he was never truly elected by a majority (either popular or electoral college), thus I didn't think of him as my president. I didn't like Reagan, but I did consider him to be my president because he was legitimately elected.

Obama was clearly elected by a majority (both popular and electoral college). Therefore, like him or not, he is everybody's president.
