Has anyone seen or know of what I think is a TV Documentary about revealing the truth on the bible namely Genesis, by verifying certain aspects of it?

I would like to know if it is the original bible they are factually verifying or the lame duck one.

It certainly would open a few old and new debates about the possibility(slim) of god(s) actually existing.

Anybody?

Great thread!

On the original topic, I believe that there are 'religions' that would not be upset to find out that there was a powerfull being that chose to manifest as a cockaroach or cannibalistic light bulb, personaly i prefer the great Burrito hypothesis.

I think that much more frightening to most people is the concept that there is nothing behind it all. Just the quantum goosh and flow. No over riding consiousness. Now, why would people be so challenged by this I don't know. But they are.

Pagans and buddhists would not be totaly threatened by the cosmic cockaroach decending in the space ship.

As for the whole concsious Universe thing, this seems to be some sort of speculation, just because the Universe is thirteen billion years old does not mean there is an underlying determinism to it. This is akin to Hawkins and others saying 'you can't just have the Universe come out of Nothing therefore there must be a God', the Universe prior to the Big Boom is unknowable at this point so all speculation is just that.

Why are people so challenged by the Copenhagen interpretation of random quantum causality, I mean really the weak forces is mediated by these really heavy particle swimming through this increadibly thin but overpopulated sea of neutrinos. Electrons and other leptons can be thought of as occupying a space limited by the speed of light divided by the time of the interaction. So if I have a light mass particle like and electron that can be considered much larger than the size of the earth. Why can't the interaction of all these fields produce a random event.

There does not have to be determinism for there to be order.

Hail Eris! Onward the Aeon! To Infinity and Beyond.

What aspects of verification would be meaningful?

Without knowing how they are verifing it I wouldn't know that's why I wanted to know

Well, it probably goes like this: "It says so in the Bible, and we can't find any evidence one way or another, so it's right!"

The kind where they find the Assyrian and Sumerian myths that it's based on, then look for an archeological explanation on the origins of these myths.

Well, it seems they'd be similar to the other origins.

"Daddy, where'd we come from?"
"Oh, er, uhh, a woman and a man..."
"No, I mean everybody!"
"Ahh, well we should ask the Shaman."
"Kay."
"Shaman, where'd we all come from?"
"Hmm, that's a toughie!"
(Shaman takes a big hit of his favorite hallicinogen...)
"It takes three licks to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop...."

Except replace "licks" with "miles" and "tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop" with "edge of the Earth" and that's about right.

By the way, this is where Franko made his last post. The beast was defeated here! Yaay!

I'll be darned. It is, isn't it. I wonder what what happened to him. I'm guessing it wasn't the confrontation with actual science that scared him away. I mean, it never has before...

Has anyone seen wraith around, for that matter? hmmm.....

Bumped so some newer folk can read Upchurch and others in action! Franko was one of the earlier trolls/instigators/whatever.

One of the weirdest personal religions I've ever heard of, Franko's Logical Deism. It's got a hot goddess!!
