Worst time of year to be an atheist?

I'll be the one.
I freaking hate this time of year. I hate the decorations. I hate the weather. I hate that it's dark at 4 PM. I hate the music. I hate that my family'll try to pressure me to go to church with them when they know damn well that I've no interest. I find the constant "merry Christmas"ing to be presumptive and annoying. About the only saving grace is the resumption of the FW!C that one of my secular friends founded. W is winter. C is club. F is guessable.
And a "Bah, humbug!" to you too!

As an atheist I don't have to go to Midnight Mess, pretend I'm repentant of my sins, or worship the illegitimate child of a goat herder's daughter.

That's a win.

Until the fish wielding dwarves catch up with you.

I'm much more offended by Easter. I have no interest in outrageous tales of fictional men stapled to crosses. I think Jesus was all but dropped from Christmas in the UK long ago, though. However, I don't really celebrate Christmas, mainly because I can't see the point in decorating the house for such a short amount of time. I hate decorating.

I do remember a particularly memorable one though. I sat in, on my own, watching TV with a curry. No distractions all day. Marvellous.

Easter always reminds me of the final scene in Monty Python's Life of Brian, where all the prisoners are on crosses, singing Always look on the bright side of life.

I love Christmas. Presents and family, Bing Crosby, snow, time off from work, what's not to like?

The worst time of year for me is the finale of any major sports competition. Players will inevitably thank God/Jesus for their victory or strength or whatever, and it just stuns me out of my prior enjoyment of the contest to send me scrambling for the mute button. Kind of similar to current (US) sports habits of thanking THE TROOPS at halftime, pregame spots, etc.

I expect Christmas or Thanksgiving to have a God component. But sports imo should solely be about entertainment. Shouldn't be militarized, nationalized, or religiousized, and it REALLY pisses me off when it is.

Well, the Dwemer were atheists, and they built steam powered robots as weapons.

:D

But seriously, your post has made me want to look again at Elder Scrolls/Morrowind mythology. Quite a lot there, with three common Dunmer being raised and worshipped as false gods then going corrupt and insane, to "real" gods and their portfolios and differing interests, to the Nerevar prophecy/coincidence/whatever. Also cool that the Nerevar could say "screw all this business" and just go around being a vampire or killing cliff racers or buying a house to show off all his cool acquisitions. Plus nude mods.
