Working on the Sabbath

If your mind is wide open you should be careful about what you let inside, otherwise you might get the wrong idea about someone or, something. ;)

Not at all, why?

Kalama Sutta

Do not believe in anything (simply)
because you have heard it.

Do not believe in traditions because they
have been handed down for many generations.

Do not believe in anything because it is
spoken and rumoured by many.

Do not believe in anything (simply) because
it is found written in your religious books.

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority
of your teachers and elders.

But after observation and analysis
when you find that anything agrees with reason
and is conductive to the good and benefit of one and all
then accept it and live up to it.

and as to people

But I am right about you, you off no proof

If truth is truth, what is good?

Ah, but we see by the light of the sun (the truth) and are sustained by its warmth (the good). Even Plato agrees ...

Truth is the vessel, and good is contained within. How's that for your can of soup, Mr. Pahansiri?

Again, was the work of women NOT considered actual work, or was the decree overlooked because women's daily contribution to the household was essential?

Mephisto

I don't know about Biblical times, but I know among Orthodox Jews, women's work today is very definitely "work" that is prohibited.

In fact, most of that which is prohibited is, in practice, women's work, because most of the men get Saturday off anyway.

If you ask an Othodox woman what she likes most about her religion, it is my experience that she will answer, quickly, "Shabbat".
