This is what happens when the list of words that you immediately call anyone who disagrees with you becomes so long.
Once liberals have decided that all of the following words actually just mean "not a liberal"...
hateful, greedy, racist, sexist, homophobic, prejudiced, bigot, criminal, etc
... liberals can't really get too upset when people start hearing them use each of those words and translate it to "not a liberal".

I'm not sure who these "liberals" you are talking about are, but I'd appreciate it if you'd aim that particular strawman elsewhere.

It's not a strawman if you're doing it, and you are. Opposition to gay marriage != homophobia or bigotry.

No, they're not equal. But not one opponent to gay marriage has yet been able to justify that position with reasons other than those that are the results of homophobia or bigotry. Until I encounter a rational defense of opposition to gay marriage, I will continue to believe that the majority of those opposed are bigots/homophobes.

(Note: We've had this debate a million times here, so I'm not about to get pulled into an extended derail on the topic in this thread. If you care to discuss it further, please take it up in one of those threads.)

In any event, it is a strawman, because you listed a whole bunch of words that "liberals" (speaking of words that are becoming meaningless!) are supposedly responsible for watering down to meaninglessness. I can assure you that when I use those words, they are deliberately chosen, and used with their standard, commonly accepted definitions.







*Actually, that's not entirely true: there is a rational position to opposing gay marriage, if you also oppose straight marriage, the "get government out of the marriage business" philosophy.
