Will Camping Move The Goalposts Again?

Just like last May, their web site still allows you to donate money, including setting up recurring donations. To me, that has always been the best barometer of their actual confidence in their predictions.

Nope, you're not stupid, and I'd not call you that for being worried. I was just wondering if anyone--you or anyone else--had reported this nutter's ravings. Not that they're credible, just that he doesn't sound like the saltiest nut in the bag*....


*note to self: work on replacement for "sharpest pencil" metaphors. This one clearly sucks. :cool:

The problem is, the media and the police forces have over-reacted to pretty much *every* threat since 9/11, regardless of the actual level of that threat.

Yes, they (probably) did investigate and interview him - because he used the word "bomb". The simple fact is though, he was released fairly quickly afterwards, if the story is to be believed.

There is only one reason to let someone go that quickly who's threatened to kill millions - the saw him for what he was. Someone seriously deluded with no means to act upon his threats (or predictions).

The other part of the problem is that we have no real way to filter content any more. Our friends and the media use social networks and we tend to believe what they say. When a genuine fruitcake comes along, using the same mechanism, our barriers are down. We listen to them - rightly or wrongly.

This is why Nigerian scams STILL exist and still work - because the people creating them know that some people are susceptible to some trigger words like "God", or "Jesus". They present as Christians, knowing that Christians are susceptible to requests from other Christians.

"They are a brother in the faith. They wouldn't lie. Maybe the do have $400M for me to move for God's work! I can be be part of this! They are blessed!"

No. They aren't. They are thieves and liars.

This is guy is basically the same - but is doing it (in my opinion) for a different reason - he has mental health problems. Unfortunately, he is also moderately literate and knows how to write in a manner that will catch some people out.

Told everyone you knew, "This time for sure!", again.

Camping has continued posting his thoughts about our continued existence. There are 3 audio messages since his October prediction, and one text message, the latest 12/4/2011.

I reviewed them all. In summary, God and the bible led Camping accurately to the two dates in 2011. God used Camping to spread God's message of judgment to the 2/3rds of the world who had not yet heard it. Camping did not understand the COMPLETE plan, just like other "great men of faith" did not: E.g, Abraham and Jonah. Camping awaits further wisdom to be revealed.
