Will Beck run off the Teabaggers now?

On the other hand, some of the Left don't seem to have much of a problem with Stalinism.

And on the other hand, some of the Right don't seem to have much of a problem with racism.

????

On the other hand, some of the right don't seem to have much of a problem with Hitler.

Hey, this is easy!

And some in the center have nothing to say about the Corn Laws! They just ignore them, like they never happened!

Dudalb, why do you sometimes say things like this? Who?

As someone not at all qualified to act as a psycho-analyst, I can say with all the certainty and authority of my non-professional experience that dudalb attempts to seek a moderate point of view in all things political, even if that means exaggerating, or simply inventing, a counter-example to some of the more extreme elements.

I think liberals need to tone down the cries of "mccarthyism", at least for now.

Right now anyone who suggests that trillion dollar deficits are dangerously destructive almost to the point of treason by those who authorize them is being smeared as racist. It's racist this, racist that, racist, racist, racist. I find it funny to watch liberals getting upset when people dare to call Obama "Hitler". Yes it's inaccurate at best. Yes it degrades the debate. Yes it's wrong (just as wrong as it was to call Bush Hitler). But as a life-long conservative, I'm just not feeling their pain. As the popular uses of words changing, their meaning as perceived by the public changes..

By prematurely abusing McCarthyism into a state of meaninglessness, Liberals run the risk of having nothing left for the day when the dictionary lists "racist" and "nazi" as "a political opponent".

Why? The GOP has toned up the rhetoric that is very similar to McCarthy. Even here, there are a couple of Conservatives that are defending McCarthy.. right in this very thread.

You make my point for me, Thai.

Remind me again which senators were calling people "evil-mongers" and "un-american" last year and hwy their speech wasn't "mccarthyism"?

Isn't it strange that there is a resurgence of McCarthyism happening, along with the John Birch Society being accepted? Has the GOP decided to adopt the crazy people, just to get their votes?

Yes. Did it in the 1990's as well.

Are you missing all the right-wing pundits and Tea Party schmoozers who are bringing up the specter of Marxism (socialism) or outright Communism when describing the Obama administration? Do you not feel that these sorts of accusations and talking points are meant to stir anti-communist sentiments and direct them at fellow Americans regardless of accuracy (which is a fair description of McCarthyism)?

Serious questions, both.

The *********** topic IS beck defending McCarthyism.!
And no, I am NOT a liberal. You are attempting a derail, sir.

Don't call rwguinn a liberal. I heard tell he shot men for less...

It is not the label that is significant, but the behavior under discussion. Does a good portion of the right now support the actions McCarthy took? Whether to call it McCarthyism is a red herring.

I notice you refer to it as a red herring. That raises an important question: are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?

Who? Notice now, that you said 'anyone'. So please show me the clip of those on the left accusing 'anyone' who accuses them of running up a dangerous debt as a racist. If you can show one, can you show anymore?

I really doubt it.

I don't think it is perceived as a direct response, but instead that the left is presenting the idea that opposition to Obama is primarily race-based, when many have substantive objections.

Basically he is accusing the left of painting critics with too broad a brush, rather than accusing specific critics of racism. He may have a point, especially in how the Tea Party is discussed.

Read any thread with "teabagger" in the title.

It comes down to the question about whether people aligning with the Tea Party are doing so for racist reasons or because of concerns about federal spending, taxation, and expansion of executive power. If I joined for the latter, I would get upset if people assumed I was racist because I associated with the Tea Party.

The Tea Party has yet to put forth any substantive objections.
