Why would anyone buy selling baby tissue?

This just doesn't make sense to me. I get that lots of people don't like abortion and they are very much wrong and deserve to feel bad for being so wrong [insert Dr Zoidberg jpg]. But selling fetuses?

How did this ever seem reasonable to anyone with half a brain? Selling fetuses, cutting up live ones on tables and such is just like cartoonish supervillain crazy. This is like the kind of plot a Captain Planet antagonist would look at and just call "ridiculous".

So where in the world did anyone get it in their mind that this could be a thing and then decide to try and fake it? Why have so many gone along with this?

More seriously there is a need for human tissues and cells, including fetal tissues and cells, for medical research (fairly mundane lab stuff-not things like saving one's wife by transplanting her head on the dead body of a hunchback as in the horror movies). Both materials are obtained after the donor has died for other reasons. Not too surprising given the limitations of experimenting on living intact humans.

There are extremely tight rules in the USA for the distribution and harvesting of even these small amounts of tissues. Typically an independent committee of MDs and PhDs has to authorize the study in advance after a long form is sent to them by the researcher. And the research has to follow exactly what is listed on the form.

I once worked with a tiny snip of a human cadaver. The snip was sent to me by a "real" doctor, but I had to discard it and all the information I got from studying it when the doctor could not find his copy of the approval form signed by the next of kin. I am certain that he had the form, only that it was lost somewhere in his office.

I have always found it amusing that anti-abortion groups periodically claim that human fetuses are in certain common consumer goods: creams, soda, etc. At best this sometimes means that some cell line created from a fetus in 1954 and grown in a lab for 50 years was used to produce a tiny amount of a substance actually in the consumer item. The idea that companies actually grind up human fetuses to make Pepsi Cola taste smoother is just so stupid.

If you are of the mindset that abortion is consummate evil and that people involved in it are evil, perhaps it's easier to attribute ridiculously evil things to them. After you pass a certain tipping point it's all about the same. Murder, dismemberment, selling, eating, it's all forked into the same cart.

I can think of no reason to object to someone else getting an abortion. Even the presence of my sperm does not give me explicit right to decide what someone else does with their own body.

The mere fact that you cannot think of reasons does not mean that they cannot or do not exist.

Sex and child sacrifice have been mainstays in demonizing out-of-power groups for as long as we've got recorded history. I read a book on heresies quashed by Catholics over the centuries, and orgies, sexual eating, and dead babies were a constant in how they described the religious practices of the heretics. Those cropped up far too often in disparate beliefs to be anything but justifications for killing heretics.
