Why We Shouldn't Procrastinate Repentance

/

God "slayeth the wicked to accomplish his righteous purposes."

There is nothing in Job that indicates the 10 people killed were wicked, indeed I'd say the opposite is implied as it's one of the reasons put forward as being why Job should give up faith in God. If you think about it if they were wicked people the killing would bolster faith in God (given the beliefs in the Bible up to that point).

Blessings=a favorable outcome or condition is bestowed upon a recipient in a way that benefits him or her.

So, your god rewards me for my atheism and dismissing your faith as just as wrong as all the others?

After all, I consider my life extremely favorable.

All of them.

So a righteous person should immediately kill any family member, friend or neighbor who even suggests that he worship another god?

A righteous person should have his daughter put to death if he discovers that she's had sex with her boyfriend?

A righteous person should refrain from causing permanent physical injury while beating his slaves?

Like all those children who were put to the sword by the righteous Hebrews when they took the promised land from the people who were already living there?*

*That never actually happened, but it's disturbing how many people think it's an historical account.

Proof of anything is hard to come by. Can you prove we don't live forever?

Yep - let me know when you want to visit and I'll take you to a few family graves, I can show you where we spread some ashes as well. Pretty certain we didn't bury anyone alive.

Well at least recently and before that - we still insist Aunty Doris looked dead, an easy mistake, anyone could have made it as we told the police.

Can't think of anything I need to repent for (of?), or to. Just making the best of the one life and opportunity I have. All good here, thanks.

Not necessarily. The song goes, "After the trials we will be blessed / But this life is the test." Look at the example of Job.

OK. Look at the example of Job's slaves and children. They were just as dead after Satan and the LORD had finished their little joke. What did they do to deserve this? Were they given a chance to repent and enter Heaven?

We are eternal beings--we will all live forever, either in misery or in happiness, according to whether our works have been good or evil.
That is fine and dandy but "good" and "evil" don't have unambiguous definitions. It turns out that the 10 commandments don't tell the whole story about how to do good or evil.

So somebody needs to decide if something is good or evil and if it is the wrong somebody making that decision then a whole lot of people are in for a shock if they are brought back to life.

Which set? Or do you mean both?

About eternal life.
My dad promised if we joined his church and spent a lifetime making those men in Pasadena richer could guarantee a place in heaven.
As my dad said, together as s family worshipping god for an eternity to come.
Two problems cropped up. I couldn't stand his preaching more than two minutes any given visit and certainly wasn't going to sit out an eternity of that ****.
The 2nd was all time, every moment 3000 of us ( the max allowed number of chosen ones, sorry those who got bumped for my sorry ass ) spent doing nothing but basking in the glory of god and praising him. Forevermore, nothing else to do, no Disney vacation options....

Why does god need this constant confirmation of his glory? How did my dumb ass make the cut over billions of actual believers? Would there be no options at all of escaping my dad irritating the paint off the walls with his constant blathering of his one of true religion?

That's how I could define hell and eternal punishment. I'll ake the other option given a choice, at least the scenery changes with all the new arrivals since the 3000 seats are already full in heaven.
