Why should Obama be reelected?

Yeah, but there's no reason for the race to have been that close to begin with. It shouldn't have come down to a couple thousand votes in Florida. The Nader voters shouldn't have mattered and if 9-11 had not had happened, Bush wouldn't have been such a regretful choice.

I fully understand voting for the lesser of two evils, especially when the race is too close to call. It'd be wonderful if we had a instant runoff election at the very least. I'd like to be able to say "I really want candidate X, but I'll take candidate Y before candidate Z".

As an environmentalist, I must favor a POTUS who will not sacrifice the environment for quick profit.

I definitely prefer a POTUS who realizes that government is an instrument for social engineering, rather than a commercial operation.

The constitution gives the federal government authority to regulate how companies do business across state lines. It says nothing about who may bump fuzzies with whom. In this matter, Obama knows his palce. Government has busines in the boardroom, not the bedroom.

I know this is a few pages back...but I just wanted to take a second to thank Lefty for this well rationed post. No sense of vitriol, nor foaming at the mouth rage involved. Just a well thought out, well stated response.

This sums up why I think I'll be voting for Obama.
I also hope now that he doesn't have to worry about being reelected he'll actually do some more things the Republicans won't like.

I hope that the General Public realizes just how hamstrung they left Obama and gives him a Congress he can actually get **** done with.

Which is why we need to find something that works better than Constitutional Democracy. History shows that voters often screw up big time. Trouble is, nobody has ever invented a better way.

This means you can't just "set things right" and expect that they will stay that way.

Just not how any of this works.

And this is EXACTLY why a high quality mandatory public education is essential for the health and defense of the nation.
 
And it will be interesting to see if the voters vote all their representatives out the next round, or just one party or the other, to address the obstructionist accusations.

I've been down the road of voting for a 3rd party candidate and concluded I really was helping the guy I hated the most win. It turned out no matter how much I said, "but I voted for #3", I still had to deal with that 90% crap.

Having to live with that reality ended up trumping my pride and ego.

I voted for Obama last time, primarily as a slap in the face to the damned republicans. I have deeply regretted that vote since.

I will never again vote for anyone who does not have my wholehearted support. Period.

What has Obama done that has caused you "deep regrets"?

My feelings hover in the area of uneasiness and disappointment*.

I can't say I've ever gotten near anything that qualifies as a deep regret.





*A vast improvement over how G. W. Bush left me feeling.
 
I get the point of the OP, though I think it carries little weight since many openly admit to 'voting against the other guy'.

My problem with that is that you are never just voting against someone, you are always in actuality voting for someone. Not only that, but where I live you are voting for a machine.

I voted for Obama because I thought we were entering a political realignment. Now that it has been a few years I realize that was a great error.

Here's my favourite anecdote about politics. I attended a forum a few years back with a LGBTQ group and representatives from the Gay Inc. and political establishment. We wanted to know about how to fight for marriage. Their response was that they were talking with representatives behind closed doors, and when they thought they could win they would bring it up to a vote. Somehow, there was no power from democratic elections. There was funding the HRC to fund lobbyists and to fund Democrats. And then trust the behind scenes negotiations. Oh, and you can write to your congressman because they tally that stuff and you will be virtually representing quite a few of your neighbours. So hope your congressman is a spineless poll watcher :boggled: .

Yes they do.

I read a lot a statements saying, "I want them to compromise and get stuff done." But that never comes with the phrase, "See, you can sacrifice my sacred cows first."

I don't think that's true at all. In California, where we've had nearly a decade of multi-billion dollar budget deficits, many liberal "sacred cows" have been sacrificed at the altar of smaller government. I'm a state worker, and a few years back we took furloughs in pay that cost me personally $5,000. Yet when it comes to raising taxes in order to achieve some kind of balanced approach, the conservative line has held steady, "No raising taxes!"

Now there's a sacred cow that I'd like to take a knife to.

I care about the economy, and Obama is the only candidate with realistic plans to improve it.

I care about our Foreign policy, and Obama is the best candidate to successfully conduct our wars abroad while not starting unnecessary new ones.

I care about the future and vitality of our Nation, and Obama is the only candidate who has made serious efforts to address the health care, education, and departmental problems our Country faces.

If you are basing your decision on what is best for the Country in almost every category, there really is no better choice than Obama.
