TIME said:
But even if Paul's ideological purity is never going to get him to the White House, it does help illuminate the impurities — and sometimes the hypocrisies — of today's Republicans, just as Ralph Nader can do for the Democrats. The G.O.P. candidates all claimed to defend taxpayers, but Paul was the only one who refused to accept a taxpayer-funded pension or taxpayer-funded junkets. The candidates all talked about shrinking big government, but Paul was the only one who included the Pentagon and NSA wiretaps and petroleum subsidies in his definition. Bush's approval ratings have been abysmal for years, but Paul was the only Republican who really campaigned for change.

And in doing so Paul illustrated what was so striking about the Republican race. The leading candidates had all strayed from Bush and current orthodoxy in the past — Rudy Giuliani on abortion and gay rights, John McCain on tax cuts, torture, health care and campaign finance, Mitt Romney on just about everything. But while Paul was getting attacked every time he called for a new direction, the rest spent the primaries minimizing and renouncing their previous departures, implicitly promising four more years of Bushism. McCain is lucky he has some time to craft a new message, because that's not where America stands today, either.

That's an interesting take on things and, in many ways, I agree with it. Republicans have lost our way to a degree and maybe it takes a nutjob like Ron Paul to help us realize that?

How much in earmarks did Paul accept for his district?

How could Paul be a nutjob if he's capable to open your eyes with simple logic?

Those who didn't grasp most of Pauls points by now, don't even deserve to be called "Nutjobs". IMHO
So you think we should abolish the Federal Reserve?

Hate to be the one to break the news to you, Oliver, but:

Oliver....do you have any clue as to how stupid your blind support for Ron Paul is making you look?

Really? Because I think it's been an incremental improvement over his previous blind support for other untenable positions. It's like watching someone abandon faith healing in favor of homeopathy.

I have to disagree. Oliver's blind support for Paul comes from the fact that Oliver ,because of his intense Anti Americanism, approves of Paul policies of a almost total withdrawal of the US from world affairs. That leads him to support all of Paul's policies, without really knowing anything about them.
Oliver never displayed his total ignorance of Economics until he begun trying to defend Paul's kooky economic theories. If anything, His "I Will Support Anything ROn Paul says" attitude has given Oliver a greater opportunity to display his ignorance.
I have repeatedly asked him which of Paul's economic policies he would like to see Germany adapt. I have yet to get a answer and don't really expect one.
If Ron Paul were to say that the Earth Was Flat, Oliver would begin posting links to the Flat Earth Society website.

Why aren't you advocating Ron Paul's economic policies for Germany?

I read the article when I saw the link on CNN earlier today. Here's why I found it wanting:

1. It failed to explain why Paul scares the GOP.
2. More than that, it failed to address whether he actually does scare the GOP.

It seemed to be the same-ol, same-ol; repetition of Paul's differences with the Republican leadership & the other candidates, why he's gotten the support that he has, blah blah blah.

There's really nothing new about the article, except a misleading title.

1. It failed to explain why Paul scares the GOP.
I think it was trying to say that Paul is a walking reminder of the hypocrisy the GOP has shown on several issues.

2. More than that, it failed to address whether he actually does scare the GOP.
True, and I'm inclined to believe the party leaders consider him to be little more than an annoyance, although the FOX News commentators seemed to have a frustrated time wrapping their heads around why Paul was always voted the winner in the texting polls after each of the debates.

That's easy. The same people who actually vote for an "American Idol" are the same ones that would actually take the time to text message Paul as their favorite. When it came time to vote in a primary, these same people couldn't figure out how to do this using their thumbs.

The only bright idea Paul stumbled on was abolishing the DOE.

Yep, when President Paul stops those blacks from draining the economy with their welfare checks, he can save the world from a global recession! Yay!

...Oh wait.
